Hi,
I have to do some close up shooting for work. Anyone know a good lens for the job? Items I am shooting are say 1 m across?
I have a EOS 20D

Surely you don't really need a close up lens for objects 1m across - or am I missing something?

What lenses have you got? Of those what have you ruled out and why?

have a sigma 18-50mm,which is ok, just wondered if anyone had studio experience and there was a particular lens that might be an idea to have as well for the job.

I am sure my lens will do a fine job, just checking nothing else better out there.

1m across your lens will be fine. The only thing you might like is something with a really wide aperture, so you can get some really nice shallow depth of field (50mm f1.8 or f1.4 as an example)

I see. What is it you're shooting? Might it suffer distortion from certain focal lengths? At 18mm you'd be exagerating perspective so that may be a consideration (or even desirable as an effect) whereas a longer lens (or at least the 50mm end) would 'shorten' the object if you know what i mean.

Its for a friend who has some products he wants shooting, but can be small and I think he wants good close ups.
