New Puchase......SVA Test

Hi fellow Vette owners.
Recently we got back from the USA. Whilst on a shopping trip out there, (which I normaly avoid like the plague) my dear wife found a Z06 (Supercharged) The message I read from her tone of voice and attitude was, "either buy it, or we get divorced". Now in my opinion I think a divorce would be more expensive, so another car is added to the fleet. Besides having to pay lots of money to Cu...& E.. I also have to get the car through an SVA Test. Is there anybody out there, who could recommend someone to undertake conversion works, to get this beast approved for UK roads? The car will be arriving into Southampton, so S/E England would be preferable.

What ever you do, don't take it to Southampton for the SVA test. They failed a stock C5 Z06 last week on the height of it's front indicators (the inspector measured from ground to the lower edge of the lens; the rear wheels protruded from the bodywork - the car is STOCK for goodness sake! and the Eurolights didn't have reflectors (So why are they sold as Euro conversion lights then AND e-marked?).
The inspector there was clearly a jobsworth as my car, which is identical in every respect, passed at the Croydon test centre without a serious problem.

Thanks Michael, You saved me a trip down to Southampton, as I was considering it being done by SVA Ltd.. who they told me that it was a long time since they worked on a Vette, I was not to impressed, but I was going to give them an opportunity to convince me. Means transporting it into London after paying the dues to HM-C&E. Finding a good man with a low loader is next on the list. Your experiance is similar to what a friend went through, when they failed his Lamborghini due to the side indicators being obstructed by the car door mirror. (when the examiner stood behind the vehicle)
When he told them that, that is how the car comes from the factory, he was told, 'so what, I'm failing it'....Can you imagine the reaction!!!!***!!!

All I know at this stage is, besides being Magna chipped and a Roots-Style Supercharger added, giving it well over 700bhp. Upgraded fuel injectors(64lbs) etc.etc, not a lot. But she's fast

There is always the issue of getting the car from the port of entry to the SVA modder and test, but Govt web site declares your ability to drive the vehicle (concession) untaxed/registered for this "single" journey. Its best to drive the car with US plates (any old plates) to avoid being stopped by plod, provided that you have insured the car on its vin number.You can still be stopped, but its usually because of interest rather than belligerence, and if you show the Govt statement, so much the better.
There are some others to consider also.
The cheapest and still well thought of is "Sigmaautomotive" based in Norwich (www.sigmaautomotive.co.uk) and they will do the work including 4 rear lights replacement for £820+vat, excluding SVA test costs.
Possibly the best should you wish to retain originality is "teslaynengineering" based at Bicester nr Oxford, and he retains your rear lights converting to the use of LED's. I have as a pdf file some photos of what the finished car looks like that I could e-mail you.
His price is £1475+vat excluding SVA test.
There is also a well thought of SVA modder based at Castle Donnington, right next door to the test site.

I was considering taking it to American Carriage Co. in Barnes London, but so far, nobody on this thread seems to mention them!!! Has anyone used them?
Looked on the website of Sigma, they look very pro.outfit. Cannot find anything on teslaynengineering,(is that correct spelling?) shame as that would be very convenient for me, being in south Bucks.
The other locations are a bit far out.

The C5 range indeed can be "done at home" because all the info, and parts including rear loom are available from Ecklers et al., as well as details of how to by-pass the drl.Always happy to help if you want to PM me.
The C6 is somewhat more complex, there is no readily available rear lights and plug-in loom, and as far as the drl fix is concerned, it no longer seems to function in auto's.
If you have done a C6, I would indeed like to know how.
