hopefully somebody can clear this up for me. I pulled up in a bus stop on my local high street to go to a cash machine. This was around 8pm. The cash machine was 'temporarily out of use' so I ran to another cash point across the road. On returning to my car 5 minutes later a lady from inside a pub came out and told me that somebody had just reversed into the front of my car and then drove off. She and her partner had a clear view from their table and informed me of the make of the vehicle, the registration number and that it was a female driver. On inspecting my vehicle there didn't appear to be any damage. I was a little concerned that maybe there would be damage I couldn't see, especially if the front panel had just popped back out into shape. I am thinking of taking my car to be checked out, to see if there is any kind of damage, but obviously i will have to front this initial cost. I was also a little pissed off that this woman had just driven off. The couple from the pub were adamant she had hit me, they said they had seen my vehicle move and had even heard the bang. I decided that i should report this to the police incase something went wrong with my car after I had driven off. The policeman at the station gave me the neccessary form and told me i would need to complete it, reurn it and bring my insurance and driving licence if I wished to take the matter further. This is not a problem as i am fully legal, but I am concerned at how they will look upon the fact that I was parked illegally in a bus stop, even if it was only whilst i went to a cash machine. I certainly don't want to end up being fined/prosecuted for admiting in my statement i was parked in a bus stop.

Any advice?

Thanks Steve

Don't know mate, I'm in a similar situation

Last week I parked on double yellow lines to come back to the car covered in tip-ex. When washing off the tip-ex some had gotten into the stone chips and made it impossible to remove (not good on a black car)

I reported it to the police and realised afterwards that they may not like where the car was parked

Let's just hope they catch the little buggers and over look our naughty parking!

Had this advice from madcop recently regarding Scamera vans in Bus stops, so it should be OK for you to park there.......

madcop said:

"Rule 217 (Highway Code) states.
Do not park your vehicle or trailer on the road where it would endanger, inconvenience or obstruct pedestrians or other road users. For example do not stop.....

A list is then provided
Third on the list is :- At or near a bus stop

This is not law. It is advice. The people that park in these areas whether for Camera van activity or otherwise are not committing offences. They are not complying with the advice of the Highway code which I would imagine would be frowned upon by the managers who oversee the operation of the camera vans. A strongly worded letter to the Chief Supt Traffic Division (or Roads Policing) should see a policy directive rapidly thrust in the direction of camera van operators."

surely because the woman hit your car and drove off this would be classed as 'leaving the scene of an accident',regardless of where the vehicle was parked.
