RE: 'Worst Driver' Escapes Jail Term
Wednesday 3rd October 2007
Raymond Paul, 67, from Belfast was caught driving a car to his home in June.
Crown Court Judge Des Marrinan said it was the 'worst driving record' he had ever seen, and suspended a 12-month term for two years.
The court was told Paul had a 30-page record spanning 56 years, with his first driving ban imposed in 1958.
A Crown lawyer said there were 211 road traffic and driving licence violations and in 1990, he was disqualified from driving for 25 years.
Paul was also fined £100 for no insurance and banned for another 10 years.
'Worst Driver' Escapes Jail Term
Banned driver recieves, you guessed it, another ban.
A pensioner caught driving while disqualified for the 48th time has been given a suspended sentence.

Discussion
The courst have shown here how out of touch with reality they are; £100 quid (his fine) a year to drive is an absolute bargain, much cheaper than doing it legally; no road tax, MOT, insurance etc etc hes saved a fortune and must have laughed his head off when he got off; he needs locking up and/or a proper fine.
The cynic in me wonders what sentence he would have got if hed been caught doing 170 in a borrowed porsche??

At the risk of stating the obvious and antagonising the "chop his arms off" brigade, he got a 12 month sentence suspended for 2 years, which means if he does it again within 2 years he's off to jail.
That would appear to constitute a good deterrent, although it presumably should have been applied a lot sooner.

But try telling that to all those jailed for driving fast, or some other trumped-up reason.
Once again the courts vindicate a total loser, whereas someone who might show some degree of independence or self-reliance will get heavily fined or imprisoned.
It reinforces the view that this country's all arse about face and we should all give up & stick our hands out.
