changing drive belt
Discussion
so, have tried silicon spray on the alternator belt and it still wont shut up when cold. so been to ford and forked out for a genuine motorcraft belt and am gonna try that.
i assume it is straight forward to put on?
looks like the tensioner is spring loaded and has a square drive hole hrough which something can be inserted to allow the tensioner to be pulled back to facilitate belt removal/fitting?
any tips as to what to use?

1/2" breaker bar.(or was it 3/8's) either way the one that fits.i assume it is straight forward to put on?

so...... set off for ford in the company car
on the way i thought to myself, "what a nice dry sunny day, roads a quiet as it is a public holiday in germany today. think i will go for a blast in the noble whens its back together"
got to ford which as a by product of the public holiday was of coarse SHUT!
ford part number on the wiki thing would be useful, when i get the correct belt i will add it, unless somebody can advise before hand

Not sure it is a Ford part...as owen said, I got mine from a motor factor.on the way i thought to myself, "what a nice dry sunny day, roads a quiet as it is a public holiday in germany today. think i will go for a blast in the noble whens its back together"

right now thats its not a public holiday anymore i have changed to belt with interesting results.
the belt i took off was made by gates with a part number / spec 6PK 1708
this seems to mean 6 ribs and 1708 long
ford supplied me a belt from continental (as in the tyres) but a bit shorter as the closest match was 6PK 1705 meaning the belt was 3mm shorter. put it on, started up and now squeeks.
i reckon that with the belt being 3mm shorter it will also run a tiny bit tighter as the tensioner will be further anti clockwise thus having more sprung pressure on the belt. i did notice the new belt doesnt seem to slap about as much on top run between the sprockets as much as the old belt.
hopefully squueeky cold startes are finished, if so i will stick to this type of belt on every change.
off to do the hub nuts now lol

can i just add i had this on my es cossie tried numerous belts changed everthing on that belt tensioner water pump power steering pump etc but it still squeeled like a pig.got talking to a motorsport guy and said many ford engines using the spring loaded tensioner system squeal.told me to put a little bit of valve cutting compound in a couple of places on the belt and hey presto not a squeal since
