Ice Warning

I'm resurrecting conversation from a dead thread here...

My ice warning system appears to be semi-functional... when I turn on the ignition, the light cycles from green through orange to red and goes off, just like the manuel says is should. However when it gets frigid outside, the light only ever goes red, I assume when it's got /really/ cold. It should, according to the manual, go green then amber as the temperature drops.

Any ideas? Or is this one only fixable via the chequebook?

When I took delivery of my new 4.0 18 months ago the ice warning light was on almost all the time. Most significantly on the journey to and from Le Mans 2000 in 100 deg. heat! The dealer replaced it at the first service and it's been fine since, even going through the full spectrum in an early moring blast to the office last sunday (to pick up some wine). This seems to be another of the TVR Ann Robinsons.

Picked up my brand new Chimp last Feb,from Hexham Horseless Carriages, and it was still snowy over the Durham moors. The ice warning light worked a treat as I went up into the freezing fog, and then came down again to warmer air. Hope it keeps on working for the forthcoming winter!

Duff sensor is the usualu problem. Use chequebook to get new one and/or fitted. Located in the front passenger side where you grovel to change indicator lights.

BTW TVR state don't rely on this!

I get exactly the same symptoms as you. I am still trying to find out what controls it. There is obviously the thermistor and the LEDs but what electronics go in the middle I can't figure.

Any ideas?

Made up a widget today to check out the light. MK1 version adjustable for 1K to 1.98K didn't have any effect except no LEDs.

Checked the thermistor at room temp got 14.13K. In the freezer got 50K and rising.

MK2 widget goes from 1K to 48K and the LED toggles from dark to red at 25.9K with no sign of green or orange!!!

So maybe all I will ever get is red when its a bit chilly. :-(

Wotz a "Chimp"? ? and how come your real name (or the one the parole board gave you, at least) is listed instead of "Bomb"?
