I no longer have warm air coming into my S Type. I have been told that I need to replace the heater water valve which allows water to the heater matrix. Apparantly a common fault.

Has anybody here fitted one? What I would like to know is if it is a job that somebody with more patience than mechanical talent could carry out. I have already changed a few of the hoses on the car without too much difficulty, although at a cost to my knuckles.

Ok, talking from a tech's point of view, its not a nice job, but no special tools are needed, apart from water pump pliers to release the stupid clips, there is a 10mm nut holding the valve to a bracket which is best got at from below, along with a coupple of the clips. Depends how patient you are !! I think Jag quote about 0.8 to do it, but, normally thats with the car on a ramp. Put aside a morning for it and you should be ok.

I had my heater valve changed the other week (XJR - not an S type - but I hope info may be of some use).

The valve was about £150. Labour was £80.

Prices exclude VAT.

The labour also included some time locating/sorting a rattle behind/from the dash.

No naming and shaming allowed, but a small independant in Surrey. Not a dealership, but they specialise in Jags.
