I'm just making up a list of jobs to do over the winter and was considering removing the pre-cats. Just wanted to check if there is an easy way to check if the pre-cats have already been removed with out removing the manifolds. I'd be gutted if I removed the manifolds only to find that a previous owner had already removed the cats.

Remove the y-piece instead then.

If the pre-cats are still in then the short section of manifold which houses them is likely to be cleaner and shinyer than the rest of the pipe as the high temperatures tend to resist and burn off any corrosion.

Also you should be able to feel (from a several inches away!) the increase in temp in this area if they are still in.

Other than that, as Spend says take off the Y piece.

And this will then stop the cats peeing? Sounds quite cruel
