My 97 facelift car has had the later style lights fitted (in the form of a kit I presume) at some point, but strangely I prefer the earlier version which it would of had originally.

So do I just buy a set of bog standard Fiesta clusters, or do they need to be a special smoked version or something?

Bog standard early ones. I have a set if you want them & can collect.

Do the newer style come out in one piece or are the actually attached/blended? If you can get your later style out without breaking then I would interested in taking them off you for a few beer tokens, even do a swapperoo or something maybe - I have a Cerb but it's the same fitting I believe (Fiesta Mk3), for some reason they updated the lights later on the Cerb, mines a 98 but don't think they did the rear light till 2000 on these.

hehe

It's not quite as bad as it seems, I had about a £16k budget but rather than spend that I opted for the cheapest car I could find (£10k) and figured I would spend £6k on it, that way knowing it was hopefully all sorted... sadly the first bill actually cost me £9k as the chassis ended up being yanked out and I did lots of other odds and sods whilst it was all in bits. Since then I would say the running costs have been fairly manageable and the car really has been pretty reliable, only thing being the normal weak clutches and things - if you remove my initial planned spend of £6k then I am certainly on or below target for the projected £3k a year running costs that they say are normal. Having said that, I think I also need to add £1800 of Ohlins onto the list as well which went on a couple of months ago, but I count that as an upgrade so it's a different pot hehe

Don't be put off by the way I have gone about it - Other people have bought £15-16k cars and really had only "normal" costs so it just depends on how you approach it.... I do like knowing my chassis has been done though biggrin They are fabulous cars and must be done thumbup

re the lights

tbh I have not actually collected the car yet, just planning ahead.

I will investigate what bits have been fitted when I pick her up.
