G32 Gearbox mod

Hello,

I've just got a red G32 convertible 1.9 which I'm very pleased with.
I've heard about a Mod that can be done to the gear linkage to make the change a bit more direct. Does anyone know anything about this?

Hi Ben,

Gear linkage was always a weak point but could be made a lot better just by taking up any slack in the linkages. Worst point on mine was the fork type link as it connected to the gearbox. Sorting this totally transfomed my G32 gearchange. I posted my fix in the GOC newsmag a couple of years ago. I'll see if I've still got the article on my PC and if so will pm you.

We tried tightening everything up, then could only get third and fourth....

And as the driver of Broomstick (rather than the mere mechanic who hijacked my ID!), yes the gear change is a pain initially but once you get used to it you actually like it. Just don't try to hurry gear changes! I'm now at the point where if anyone - like poor MH Engineering (highly recommended!) - does any work on the car they are told in no uncertain terms not to fiddle with my gear change, I like it as it is however much they think they could improve it!!

I could of course let you into the secret of my technique for gear changes but the G4 man might be a bit embarrassed ...
