Headlight bulb change..
Discussion
Ok time for one of my usual dumbass question. Needed to pop a new bulb in and finally managed to hack my way into the enclosure only to pull out an 100/80W bulb, as far as I am aware it should be 60/55W. So either someone just lumped some higher power bulbs in (not that they have fried my cables yet) or someone has maybe even upgraded the wiring (wishful thinking). Problem is I now have a 60/55 ready to go in and I also bought a spare one for the boot. So do I:
Oh and sorry for asking a rather inane question which I realise is really more of a personal decision for me to make - for my next thread, I shall be asking - "going to make myself a coffee, should I have sugar in it do you think?"
- Go back to Halfrauds and buy a matching 100/80, bearing in mind this is I guess what is in the other side, but theoretically continue running bulbs that are too powerful for the wiring. Other issue here is that car is all jacked up and I would have to use it to get to Halfords, hence a bit of a pain!!
- Given that I bought a spare, change both bulbs back to 60/55 but suffer worse lighting than I would have had before (I always thought my lights weren't too bad, bearing in mind all the grumbles about poor lighting), problem is not sure I can be arsed or have time to do the other side today, and need it done today as busy tomorrow and off to Deutchsland early on Saturday morning.
- Just stick the lower bulb in on the one side that has blown
... This is my preferred quick fix, but is this likely to cause any probs with fuses or the control box due to running an unequal draw. I will be using them a fair bit over the weekend as leaving early doors on Saturday when it will still be dark, and also driving back from the Ring on Monday night for a late crossing.

Don't worry about unequal draw TC it doesn't work that way. The box above the tank switches power for both lamps, so all sticking a 55/60 in will do is reduce the overall current. Might be worth inspecting the lighting boxes for scorching of the connectors so you could do some preventative maintenance before you go.

Perfick, shall do that to give me some working headlights and sort the other side at a later date (or never depending on how crap it looks Steve.

55/60 but some of those Phillips brighter ones? I fitted them to our MX-5 and Alan fitted them to my Cerbera. They work really well for a low current draw.
Yeah I have seen these mentioned but thought I would buy standard as thought that would be what was in there and didn't want to really have to do both sides, as it happens they don't match now anyway
. Ho Hum should have whipped one out first I suppose but wanted to do it all in one sitting. Still also weighing up pros and cons of throwing a HID kit in there at some point, so might do that as a little winter project. Tis all done and back together now anyway, not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
