My Las Vegas diary
Discussion
I'm sat in my hotel room nursing a slight hangover and eyeing up a pile of chips that was apparently my winnings last night, not that I remember much. It seems free booze and gambling was (last night at least) a good combination!
I've paid my $12.99 for 24 hours internet access so I thought I'd make the most of it and post up some snaps from our first day here. I'll possibly update this thread further if I get a chance.
Note to self, walking 8 miles in flip flops is a bad idea. My feet are in excruciating pain.
First time I've edited shots on this new laptop so I'm not sure about the colour and quality of these.
Obligatory slots photo

Cocktails at the Wynn, good on the tastebuds hard on the wallet

Seems everywhere you point your camera in Vegas there are ten fatties in the way, so I decided to do a little series looking up and avoiding the crowds:

Hope you enjoy these.

Well, I'm now a married man, but I'll spare you the photos of our wedding!
Interestingly enough Graham, I've seen scores of people waving cameras around the casinos and not one getting any attention from the staff. I suspect though if I whipped out the camera at the blackjack table the dealer and other players wouldn't be quite so accommodating.
My favourite so far - Liberty, Vegas style. (possibly a touch oversharpened)

And just a one more for the looking up selection

Off to the grand canyon tomorrow, hopefully I'll have something interesting to post after that.

Yesterday was a lot of fun, although we never made it to the shooting range.
6:00am start for a ride on one of these

To the Grand Canyon. Never been on an helicopter before so it was a new experience for me and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Dodgy reflections on glass from the sun that was just coming up ruined the photos on the way there.
The canyon itself is very impressive, but once landed I felt it was a bit of an anti-climax, and my lack of landscape skill meant I struggled to compose things interestingly.

I'll wait and see how the 360 panoramic comes out when I get home.
On the flight back I had a better seat, and managed a couple I really like

Mojave desert, Yann Arthus Bertrand style

and finally, at 130mph I reckon I had about 1/10th of a second to get a shot of the strip as we passed over it, more luck than judgement I think

Hope you enjoy these

Congrats
I got married there in 2001, Little Chapel of the Flowers - The Blue Hawaii Wedding
Thanks Nick! We seriously considered the little chapel of the flowers but ended up choosing "A Special Memory Chapel" with Elvis officiating. Unfortunately they messed up the online video (which we paid extra for) and didn't deliver other items we paid for. Follow up service is, shall we say, lacking.

Doesn't tarnish what is a wonderful memory though, so much fun.
Nice Nick, looks like you had a good time! I'm back now, 20 hours + travelling and I'm exhausted, I'll have to wait to process the 3000+ raw files that are currently on my laptop.
Vegas was everything I expected and more, an awesome experience and one I hope to have again one day.
edit to add - I found myself joining the medium format crowd whilst I was in the US, I'll post more about that little purchase when I've had some sleep!

Well for anyone who still cares I've just finished procesing my pictures from Vegas, so have a couple more for your consideration...
Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden - full of very bored lions ('orrid chain link fences in the way), both these are shot at ISO 1000;

Went on a trip to capture some longer exposures all down the strip. Got to the third hotel and the battery died, only time I've ever wished I had a spare.

You can't go to Vegas and not photograph the fountains at the bellagio.

And finally, since Nick shared his, a couple from our Wedding:
