please tell me something about stepper motor function on a griffith engine and its possible malfunctions with its consecuences...next week i'll have quite a few new parts (coil/dizzy/plugs/leads...) arriving in order to start seriously checking my griff 500 engine problems (that i've posted in a few threads in the last weeks...pinging/lazyness over 4.000rpms).

thanks a lot and have a nice weekend

Sounds more like an ECU problem - have you tried resetting the ECU (this is the equivalent of the IT guy's 'Switch it off and on again' solution).

Consequences at 4000 more or less nil I would say. If you have pinking then it must be from one of:

octane too low (can result from excessive breather gases)
too much ignition advance
too little fuel
too much compression
hot spots (can result from carbon build-up)
