Yippie - just got a new contract

In light of the current IT market, I thought that I would let everyone know that I've been awarded an excellent P&T contract for a major bank in the City. Looks like the market is starting to move after over 2 years of being in the doldrums.

I've been getting p'ed off with contracts being withdrawn for budgetary reasons at the final stage or put on hold for months at a time.

Anyone else noticed that the market is picking up?

The general IT market seems a little better than it was, but for me (working in rather a niche area) it is still very quiet, and the few that do come up are very reduced rates.

Definitely seems to be better than it was, but it's still not good. Saying that tho, myself & most contractors I know are in work right now - could be that some areas of IT are in better shape than others.

Thanks everyone....

I work in a very specialised area as well - I'm a Sybase and Oracle consultant to the Financial Markets. The buggers just haven't been recruiting anywhere near as much as they did. I have worked in Dublin and Austria as there has been not much around in London. Thankfully this one is in London.
