Unfortunately, some anti-bike sentiment seems to have crept into this thread on PH:

either way, there are more cars than bikes. Better to make it safer for many rather than the few. Bikes are an accident waiting to happen anyway.
But far more bikers are killed/seriously injured through incursions of right-of-way anyway!
maybe they should stop riding like they are the only thing on the road and speed limts don't apply to them.
Thought others here might like to add to my reply wink

I'm a huge fan of bikes. My dad used to race them.

You'll be getting no anti-biking sentiment from me!

Plus we are all petrol heads, we should learn to get along and to fight the eco gren tax lentilists together. Strength in numbers and wotnot.

Dude, if you get bent out of shape and try rallying the troops everytime you find someone having a crack at bikers on PH, youll be flat out and very stressed.

Forget it. That exact argument comes up about every 2 months anyway.

There is the odd cocktard who needs a reality check though with an onslaught. Cardigankid?

Trouble is that the most visible bikers are those who are coking around. You don't notice the snesible ones. That's why most car drivers think bikes are a liability.

I'm used to being classed as a second class citizen for riding a bike whatever I do or however I ride. Only those of us in the club know the real score so I chose to take no notice of these petty anti bike posts that appear.
I drive cars too unsurprisingly so like to feel I have a balanced view of things.

What sort of 'bikes' are we on about here?

Motorbikes or mountain bikes?

They are talking about road incidents so it must be motorbikes, it can't be bicycles as I haven't seen any mention of pavement incidents. wink

Few that takes me out of this argument then. I will continue to use the roads on my mountain bike (Diamond Back XCT)

Yes, but shufflers are generally nice to bikers. I don't think paulsm a shuffler, but a visiter to their otherwise safe and courteous forum smile

Just because people like cars doesn't guarantee that they aren't ignorant. Try and educate them if you like but I've tried before and if people are thick to start with talking reasonably won't change the fact.

Thing is, whilst I don't agree with the first two comments quoted, his final comment is true of many, many bikers - they ride on the public roads as if it were a racetrack and ride way, way above the posted limits. Now, i'm not judging them, and i'm guilty of over-exercising the trottle myself (A272 today in fact), but we have to accept that many people see this kind of behaviour as antisocial and dangerous.

Add to this that most car drivers simply do not comprehend the abilities of modern sports bikes and judge riding from their own experiences - e.g. because their 1.1l Fiesta couldn't have made that overtake/corner/gap, they assume that the biker was being reckless - not much point arguing about it really, just ignore it.

You're right about the speeding thing, but I think it is more an issue of an 'enthusiast' mentality rather than a biker mentality. The vast majority of bikers are motorcycle enthusiasts, whereas most car drivers are not driving enthusiasts. As a result, in percentage terms, more riders are judged to be taking the piss. I have a sneaky feeling that if you did a comparison between bikers and car enthusiasts the results of 'those that speed' and 'those that like to make progress' would be pretty similar. We're at a disadvantage because we are a minority. You're not going to change them so I prefer to just smile, wave and then disappear up the road as they are stuck in the 2 mile tailback behind the caravan...

Well, I reckon people should be made to ride M/Bikes BEFORE they are allowed to drive cars. But that 'aint gonna happen, cus' bikes have always been and possibly will always be seen as anti-social. Ignorant dumbs.

This view probably wasn't helped by the biker who rode through my village a while back, he was on a chopper not wearing a helmet, I only noticed him in my rear view mirror as he seemed to know a lot of people, I later noticed he wasn't waving at them, more a general gesticulation LOL

Dave!
