Silencer repacking
Discussion
I've just had my silencer repacked after scraping through last time at Elvington.
I have given it a run but I'm struggling to get below 105db.(1700 X-flow)
I realise there is a variation in meters but I don't want to get to my next track day next week and get booted for being too loud.
If I can't get it down further as-is I may need to make some kind of restrictor.
Any advise appreciated

Buy a super Trapp disc only bolt on silencer - you lose a bit of power but you guarantee you'll get a run out.I have given it a run but I'm struggling to get below 105db.(1700 X-flow)

Just do it properly and get a bigger silencer to start with if repacking yours hasnt helped.
Supertraps are the work of the devil IMHO, everyone who Ive seen use them say they completely screw up the engine's performance because they're so restrictive. Having one in the toolbox as a last resort is almost acceptable I guess if your car say hovers around the 97-99db area and you want to do the odd trackday at somewhere like Goodwood who are extremely vigilent and might fail you if the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, but if you're up around 105-106db to start with you'll end up using it most of the time!

A proper Supertrapp's a good unit. The disc only ones sap power - but they guarantee you'll be able to take to the track.Supertraps are the work of the devil IMHO, everyone who Ive seen use them say they completely screw up the engine's performance because they're so restrictive. Maybe, but personally I can't see the point if the car's running like a complete dog when for similar money you could buy a good 7" can from somewhere like Simpsons and get decent noise levels AND decent performance?
A chap I know on Locostbuilders fitted one to his MK Indy S2000 and with most of the discs inserted it lost 100bhp on the rollers! To get it performing well they had to take all the discs out which make it bloomin loud and he ended up fitting another silencer into the manifold before the Supertrapp to get it down to reasonable levels whilst retaining performance.
linky
This may not be such an issue with less powerful engines I agree, but its still the wrong way to go about it IMHO, if you get a good silencer on the car to start with you don't need to sacrifice performance to get noise levels down. Ive got an R1 BEC and have managed to get that below 98db (at 8k) with a Simpson silencer despite having an open sausage airfilter sticking through the bonnet giving a fair amount of induction noise, so Im sure you could do similar with a XFlow.

Okay
I think it may be time for me to kick myself...
The silencer is a repackable 6" dia by 24" long, the company that made the exhaust originally did the repack.
But I think I may have positioned the meter wrongly.
My tail pipe exits the side of the body a 45* and I was putting the meter at 45* (rearwards) to the body at 0.5m. (so in direct line of the exiting gasses)
Apparently at the last noise test the meter was held at 45* (forward) of the exiting gasses, so it would have been held at 90* to the side of the body, if that makes sense.....
re positioned the meter and it's 99db......
