Griff's been tucked away for few weeks.. combination of crap weather and 2 wks in USA.
Went to start and would'nt fire up, checked usual suspects and narrowed it down to rotor arm.. replaced with old one kept as spare and he roars into life.. thumbup

Took him out for nice run to warm everything through but on return could smell burnt oil.
Looked all round to notice little wisps of white smoke coming from the exhaust where the two pipes join into one just behind gearbox.
Had gearbox oil replaced about 6 weeks ago and did'nt notice anything strange after.
Obviously the oil is dripping onto the hot exhaust but from where I'm not sure..
Any ideas chaps...?

had similar problem with mine a while ago, it can be coming from several places, possibly the righthand rocker cover, this will drip down onto the exhaust and be blown back towards the silencer, also a leak on the valley gasket can do this as well, best to get underneath with a torch and have a very good look around, if you cant find it, wipe everything as clean as possible, then go for a run and re check it so you can then see or feel where its coming from.

Also if you have PAS check that the J clips are tight enough as that will drip directly on the exhaust and may possible set fire yes

Cheers guys.
Clive I regularly check the oil level and there does'nt seem to be any significant loss or drop in level.
Pasco, yep have PAS but everything looks tight and reservoir looks at right level.

Is there a chance of a seal failure on back of gearbox where prop joins...?
Could the filler plug on the gearbox have come adrift when oil change was carried out and is now spitting out oil when on the move..?

Gonna have to get him in the air I think for a proper look.

Anyone near Banbury got a lift or pit I could use for 10 mins for some beer tokens... biggrin
