I took the car for a run today about 25 miles then stopped in St Albans for a coffee, i had to switch the car on and off about 5 times in 2 mins to move it. (FxxKING TRAFFIC WARDENS) Anyway on the last shunt into a parking bay switched off and within 5 secs steam started poring from the vents in the bonnet the temp gauge read 100 and a little water started to appear under the car. I left it for 15 mins checked the water (no loss) started it back up (all is fine) took it for a 40 mile high speed blast and no problems at all. Could it have been the stoping and starting all those tims that could have upset something.
Cheers Gordon.

Agree with Whitey get it checked out...but mines a bugger starting after the first time started...It will fire up OK first time, but if I loose it, starting second time is a pain, I tend to give it a bit of trottle if think it struggling to start and usually it kicks in...If it doesn't....I walk away for a few minutes...then it will decide to play....It tends to behave like a woman at times......

It is weird, i have taken of the bonnet looked and poked all around and no sign of any leaks, the fans kick in but at the time of the problem i have just rememberd that the fans where not on so i checked the fuses at the time of the proble both fuses were fine, i tend to agree with whitey i think she got a bit confused with all the starting and stopping in a short time, i will give barnet a ring tommorrow to hear what they say. Thanks for the inputs i will keep you informed.Gordon

I had the same problem in mine. There is a sensor under the airbox which reads the water temp and switches the fans on. The part is of a range rover and costs around £10.50 plus vat.
On mine the sensor was reading 60 C when the actual temp was 104 C. hence the fans were never coming on. The fans should kick in around 94 C. On a long rung this should sustain around 74 C.
The problem however is that when the water is turning to steam, it creates pressure and this will try to escape either through the rad cap (good idea to replace anyway as only £8 from CT)or as in my case the radiator. Good idea to get this in for a pressure test. You may also have to get your cylinder head gasket looked at also. You can normally tell however if this is gone by looking at your coolant tom see if it is an abnormal colour.
The car will run fine on a long run, as the air rushing to the radiator will keep it cool. The problem will be when you get into town and the temperature simply builds up. Beware it can do so at an alarming rate and takes an eternity to cool to a sensible level!!
My advice is to dailly check your coolant and oil levels. Coolant should show about 10mm in the expansion tank. This is the neck section that you see when filling it up.
