Hi all,

I am looking to buy my first cerb and i know there are/can be lots of little problems so like to think going in with my eyes open. Could anyone give me some info on exactly whats the bset things to look out for when i go looking. I have my eyes on one at the moment.

Advise needed please.

Also £3,000 a year is that a good guess on running costs???

service history, receipts, service history, and service history.

after that, clutch (age), electrics, oil burning lumps, overheating, damp.

if you are unsure, search this forum i'm sure there is a buyer's guide somwhere.

Hi,

My advice would be to find one you like the look of, drives well has all the mods you want already fitted then take it to somewhere like TVR Power for a full inspection. It will cost you £200+ but could save you thousands.

£3k a year running costs seems about right. Some years it will be less some more.

Good luck.

I'd fully agree with Tim, whatever car takes your fancy get it checked over at a specialists, there are a lot of not so good cars out there when I was looking a year ago. I used Rob Ingleby who charged about £200 to test drive, jack up and write a full report including a market valuation which enabled me to negotiate a couple of grand off the price and a 6k service plus MOT which had been overlooked. Well worth it.

In financial orderish

Rotten chassis, engine due a rebuild, shocks, clutch, paint condition, 12k service plus tappets

The niggles etc, will cost less than a grand.
