Had a fantastic run down to the last Goodwood Breakfast Club meet for the year and the sun came out just as we arrived. After an enjoyable morning of looking at some beautiful and some not so beautiful motors I started to make my way home. Just when I was beginning to think 'this is great and life doesn't get much better than this' my Griff developed an 'occasional' hiccup at around 2,500 to 3,000 rpm. I've done in excess of 3k miles since December when I bought the Griff and it's never missed a beat until today. The plugs and leads are all new. Strangely, when I went out in the Griff this evening it seemed ok. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Any advice, as always, greatfully received. F&C.confused

Check that the leads are properly seated and attached. They are known to work themselves loose.

I've just had that problem and it seems it might be down to a number of things.
Despite being new you might have a dodgy lead or plug.
The seal around your stepper motor and throttle pot might be leaking air.
The springs holding your advance weights in your dizzy might have come off.
ECU issues, sometimes can be sorted by disconnecting the battery and then unplugging and re plugging the ECU.

Comination of looking at all of the above appears to have cured my issues.

Hows you and the misses? Julie says wavey

Thanks Dave for the suggestions. I'll give them all a go and let you know how I get on. Hope you and Julie enjoyed your trip to France. Mrs F&C says 'hi' to you both. wavey F&C

Ive had the same problem with my Griff its an 93 pre serp 500, it happens very rarely last time was 2 days ago, before about a year ago and once or twice a couple of years ago , I just put it down to iffy petrol had mine checked over last year at a service (HHC ) they couldnt find anything wrong.
Its a strange one it feels to me as if the petrol isnt getting through for just a second or 2 then its away okay , I try not to worry about it now but irked

Mine still misses a beat now and again.I'm swaying towards a plug lead problem at the moment.Mine was alright until I had new leads/extenders/dizzy cap and rotor arm and having heard of other problems with Magnecor leads.....!!Toma500.. Mine was also cutting out for more than a missed beat and the cause of that was a diffy wire on the fuel pump. When I wiggled the wire with my finger the pump would cut out. After cutting the end off and putting a new connector on its been ok.

I had this experience too. The plugs were fouled up so did all the obvious things - changed the plugs/leads/coil etc. This made no difference - plugs fouled again. The cause suggested was an overfilling of oil causing the fouling / misfiring. Let some oil out, and never had the problem since.

Hmm thats interesting as i had just topped up the oil its possible i could have overfilled it , that would explain the infrequent occurence of this missfire.

That doesn't sound likely...

Yes i think your right i think i will check out the fuel pump connections , it does seem like a sudden loss of all power for a second or two when it happens , but it does it so infrequently i might be chasing shadows . scratchchin

Just drag this one up again for a moment........Swapped my Magnecor king lead for a standard TVR/Landrover lead and my occasional hiccup/missed beat completely cured!!Took all my Magnecor HT leads off and tightened up the ends by either splaying them out ( dizzy end )or pinching them in ( plugs/extender ends ) and everything seems to be ok. ( including king lead ).
