Got pulled over yesterday, but in very strange cirumstances. Undertook a car (stupid, I know), then the guy starts gesturing me to pull over, so I'm thinking he's a nutter and carry on driving. Then I see he's talking into a walkie talkie, so I think prob plain clothes officer and pull over. I get out the car, he pulls in behind me. He doesn't get out of the car, just starts shouting through the passenger window about road safety etc. Doesn't ask my name, just notes my reg number, say's "I'm gonna report you for dangerous driving" and speeds off. Weird bit, he didn't at any point id himself as police, didn't show any id? Does this sound like normal police procedure?
Its NOT police! police are NOT allowed to stop you unless they are in a marked vehicle. you were stupid for stopping. NEVER stop for anyone apart from flashing blue lights! he is probably trying to scare you. he may or may not report you. if he does you have two options 1)deny being there (be careful as he might have taken a phone pic etc) or 2) say HE undertook YOU! its unlikely bib will prosecute either way as there is no witnesses.

[Pedant mode] I didn't think the vehicle mattered... marked or not...as long as BiB was in uniform he has the power to request you to stop...what would the point of unmarked patrol vehicles be if the occupants couldn't 'pull' someone just because there was no POLICE sign emblazoned on their car?[/pedant mode]

unmarked cars still have the blue lights!I believe it has to be the officers in the car who are marked. It is an offence to fail to comply with the directions given by a police officer in uniform. You are obliged to follow the directions of an officer in plain clothes who is directing traffic. That is why, when a plain-clothes or off-duty officer flashes his warrant card, he identifies himself as: "I am an off-duty (plain-clothes) police officer for the time being engaged in the regulation of traffic. I am directing you to pull in over there, etc."
There is no requirement for you to stop if you are followed by a police car with it blues and twos on. Any failure to allow such a police car precedance would be considered an offence, the seriousness depending on the circumstances.

Since when haven't the police been allowed to stop you in an unmmarked car? This happened to me last week, and yes they were undercover jobbies as one of them i knew was a policeman,i was at school with him. They never had uniforms on,just rather nice tanktops, corduroys and loafers.

No - as the "unmarked" becomes "marked" when he either flashes the blue lights or contain officers in uniform ...
the argument is centred around Jeremy's remark of "police are NOT allowed to stop you unless they are in a marked vehicle"Which is patently wrong.

btw when the lights come on in an unmarked vehicle it becomes a marked vehicle as everyone knows its bib!

...and yes I did read that entry....but you were wrong in your statement "Its NOT police! police are NOT allowed to stop you unless they are in a marked vehicle" and are now wriggling on the hook trying to escape by bringing other considerations into the argument to obfuscate the issue. If the officer is in uniform in an otherwise unmarked car he could pull alongside you and indicate you to pull over...doesn't require blues and two's
If they are plain clothes then you would need some other evidence to stop..B&T's would be good in that case
If we were to believe your initial statement then BIB on the beat would have to flag down a marked car to stop someone...
Your statement was inherently incorrect on so many levels, a little humility instead of expending more energy digging that hole of yours would be advised.
