i have the option on some premises on a very busy high street and would like to open an employment agency.
what do i need in the way of permits etc?
i think i have spotted a niche in the market and think that it could be potentially very lucrative

First thing to do is share that "niche" with your fellow PH'ers, see if we think its a good idea too. whistle

Not being funny but if you have to ask, then should you be doing it.

Start with DTi/govt websites.

there are no longer any permits/licences needed to setup a recruitment agency - there maybe some specific registrations you have to go through (CIS IR35 etc) for the market you operate in - but its easy as 123 to setup - can be done in about 5 seconds!

Running it, making it pay, finding the candidates and right people to work for you etc etc is the tricky bit!

PLUS - there are 1,000,000's of Agencies around - what makes YOU so special - thats a good question to ask yourself.

yes

We do some agency work alongside our consulting and finding people that we will put our name to is very difficult.

Our niche is that we validate all of our candidates before they go to clients. We work in the industry and are experts in our field so it's reasonably easy for us to check CV's and experience. It works for our clients because they get better people. It works for us because we are not greedy & take half the rate of most well known agencies. Without that niche it would be just another bunfight with the big names.
