Apple and USB ports

We've developed a product that uses a USB connection for configuration from a windows PC. Our client has asked whether we can port the config software to the Apple platform.

I've taken a quick look at the Apple Website and the current range of PC's support USB. Has this always been the case? Do the older MAC's come with USB ports or is it a recent thing?

Apple jumped to USB before it was really popular on PCs. The original iMacs (from May 1998) had only USB ports and no legacy ports. All new Mac models introduced after then had USB ports.
