What is going on here?

I always thought he was a pretty snappy dresser, but whats with those white trainers he has started to wear?

A fashion faux pa if I ever saw one.....or maybe has has feet probelms?

Martin, sort them out, only a geek (or Subaru driver) would wear such a thing!

He has ankle problems (not sure if it's one or two) which give him a bit of a mobility problem.

I'd imagine that there is often a fair distance to be covered from the grid to the commentary box in a short amount of time at most GP's. Certainly at Silverstone it's a pretty good trek.

He has always worn trainers.

I remember seeing him at Brands with his trade mark jacket and jeans and then noticed that he had finished the look off with some nasty looking white trainers.

I don't think it has anything to do with mobility after all he could have got some nice black trainers or comfy shoes.

But let us not forget that he is from Norfolk.

He had a bad crash in the US in his first season of F1, would more than likely give him a few issues

I have also noticed Brundle's new trainers being a bit of a sneaker freak myself - don't ask!).

His last pair were some rather swish Air Max 360s, which you read about here:

http://www.solecollector.com/news/2006/01/stry_nik...

His new trainers, however, just seem to be some generic white tennis shoes.

I am in two minds about the 360s - part of me appreciates the innovation, but another part frinds them too technical, and lacking perfect mix of innovation and beauty of, say, Air Max 95s. His new trainers, however, look rubbis - come on Martin!

Brundle's ankles are indeed his, excuse the pun, achilles heel. ISTR that when he was still an active F1 driver his main training consisted of swimming and cycling. His ankles just couldn't take the pain of running for more than about 5 minutes.

Remember when he had a big crash in the Jordan and then ran back to the pits to get in the spare car??? (I think it was Australia '96? '97?) I'm sure that Sid Watkins checked his ankles before letting him race again that day.

Ankles or not, I'm sure he's not short of a bob or two, and could surley get a pair of decent trainers, not the ones from Matalan....

Maybe he doesn't care what people think about his shoes?

Yes. An f1 driver of merit, and some people say one of the greatest sports car drivers of all time. And he's loaded. I doubt if he'd care too much how he's dressd (ever seen Michael Schumacher in civvies???)

One thing is certain: now his son has started racing, so he has to be an embarrasing dad to his teenage son.

Very good point!! My friend's twins have just turned 13 my friend and I are taking our role of embarrasing mother and mother's batty friend very seriously - it's great fun biggrin

Frankly I don't give a rats arse what Martin wears and I really doubt he cares what we think either!

James Allen may wear beautiful shoes - it doesn't make him any more popular does it?!
