Not cos they dont have engines?
Respect to the cyclists who go out and perform using muscle power and keeping fit etc.
But have you seen some of their threads?

Do you remember your first MTB?
What chain shall I buy?
Do these lycra shorts make me look manly?

Does it all seem a bit lame and poncy or am I just getting tetchy in my old age? I used to cycle lots (when I were a lad) and I just got and did stuff, and bought parts relatively easily without having to poll people to seek some kind of approval factor.

What was your best bike ever and why?

etc etc etc

Fair point.. yes it is all over.. but dont these things sound more important on a motorbike. A bit along the lines of..

I have 50p.. what choc bar shall I buy?
and
I have 50k.. how should i invest it?

Maybe it's just me being odd, but it sounds real lame when its push bikes.

problem you can spend more on a pushbike that a lot of us spend on motorbikes. i guess if your into that your into that, i bet (infact i know, wont go into it) there are forums out there about which needle to buy when doing cross-stitch.

Well, one of my pushbikes is worth more than one of my motorbikes.

It has disc brakes with braided hoses, suspension with adjustable compression and rebound, and, wait for it, 9 gears! My other pushbike even has remote lockout on the front suspension hehe

To establish if cyclists are ponces or not, as the title of the thread suggests

I think the OP needs to actually read the biker banter forum as the same can be said for posts there

we have "BMW bikes good/bad"
we have "How do you not skid on an emergency stop?"
we have "Best £3k Bike?"
we have "Which litre sports bike?"

It seems that Bikers also need to seek some kind of approval factor.

But the fact is that people use the forums to canvass the opinion of others whom have made purchases, whether your interest is cars, bikes or cycles we all use the forums to find good products and thrive of the experience of others. Also the forum is a community so it's natural that some are going to ask question of what was your favourite bike/cycle/hat/glove/coat/car etc......

If there were no questions asked or threads started it would be a very quiet place smile

Imo the only aim is to support or otherwise Conian's view that cyclists are ponces. Let them accessorise, we all do it as someone else pointed out.

Just to re-state something... I dont think cyclists are poncey. They are fit and motivated people who achieve a lot using only their body strength. (Excluding naughty Tour de France riders)

I know that seeking opinions and advice happens on all forums, I just wanted to find some other people's views to see if my own view on it was very wrong or just wrong.

Asking 'which litre bike should I buy' is a slightly knobby question, but then again whacking down £7,500 on a bike is a teeny bit more important than which chain shall I buy for my mountain bike?

Its just a chain! It doesn't do all that much, the stresses on it aren't very great so even a cheapy one will last ages if you oil it... but then... what oil should I use?

See, I'm off again.

This should help you select an oil smile

I think you'll find that a cycle chain can be under quite a stress when hauling a rider plus cycle up a short steep hill and their full body weight is pushing down. Chains range from £8.99 to an eye watering £229 for some titanium thing who knows who would buy that.

As an side some light reading.

Google you've got to love it!!

far from it , its probably more important on a push bike.

Top of the range cycle chains are like a piece of jewellery to hold

My first motorcycle was a Puch Maxi when i was 11.

This combined pedal power with an engine...

Much like this thing:

My Speed Skates (roller) all in all cost . . .

Boots - £450 - carbon/kevlar - custom made for my feet
ABEC 7 mini's - £100 - trick as you like
Wheels x 8 @ 100mm - £120 - fast as you like
Frames - £200 - billet & single-sided

Thats ummmmmmm - A LOT!!!!

Point being - if you are passionate about a sport/hobby - the costs can easily outweigh logic to some people!
