Got an interview for a job........... Your opinions?
Discussion
Hello again,
Hope your well.
Well, 2 weeks ago I applied for a job at Ferrari/Maserati in Lyndhurst for full time employment. Due to me being 16, having no experience with cars at all, i didnt even think about them replying. Infact, I actually expected the receptionist to call a meeting so everybody can laugh at me letter.
But completely out the blue, i recieved a phone call from them today trying to arrange an interview.
Anyway, We came to an agreement of tommorow after college but thinking back at it, was it the best thing to do?
For example:
I love sixth form at my current school and dont want to lose contact with my friends.
And.... The only reason I wanted this job is because I love these cars emensly and would love to see them everyday but would they get boring?
Should i stay on and do A-Levels? Improve my chances for later life and increase my chances of actually being able to afford one of these cars not just work with them!
The work place is about 18 miles away which is a long way considering I can't drive.
The problem is that i know i am a little imature 16 year old that just dreams of gettin near these cars let alone getting to touch them. And i know i have the passion because me and 2 mates occasionally travel all the way to london doing 50 minutes on a bus, 2 hours on train just to oggle supercars. LONDON DOES NOT DISSAPOINT! lol.
I was going to apply for Lamborghini aswell but i think they are to ....... well, snobbish. Unlike Ferrari, they will not allow you in thier showroom unless you make an appointment and we obviously cant do that, prime example was at Goodwood when all the cars was roped off so people cant touch them
Like I mean, people arn't going to spend £50 to go and scratch some sexy cars up now are they? I understand why Lambo are like this but it's only the occasional idiot that spoils it for the rest
.
Please help! lol
Sorry if iv'e wasted your time!

Have you considered getting a vacation job or part time work at weekends at one of these car places instead? Giving up school now would be crazy. My advice would be to stay at school for at least another two years, get your A-levels, score with girls as often as you can and get your supercar car kicks kicks by going to London or shows like you do already.

Do yourself a big favour and stay at college and keep up your enthusiasm... Spannering cars at 16 will put you way, way down the list of those likely to find themselves in a beautiful car, with a beautiful wife and asking themselves , "well, how did I get here?" (which is probably very, very © Talking Heads in the 1980's - which just ages me a lot!)
Keep the faith - that being the belief you will need to have that you WILL have the car of your dreams one day, maybe soon...
Urraco 250S has a tale of how he came to have his Lambo at 19 via a lot of pain (!!) but then, he's been a very active Lambo-nut as well since he was a tiny-wee sprog and his ongoing efforts still INCLUDE his college work and have never caused him to think of dropping schooling at all - as far as I know - though Leslie may want to correct me if I'm wrong!
Many of LCUK's Members will have been on train trips to the big smoke(s) to see Lamborghinis themselves when they were your age (and quite a lot older as well, I think) so, bite your lip, ask the chaps at the place in Lyndhurst about a Saturday job of some kind but keep on with college/school - you know you should, I'm sure...

Go meet them, have the interview (all good experience) listen to what they say, make sure when they ask you if you have any questions, you are well prepared and get out of them what you need to know in terms of opportunities, what they can offer you in terms of development, experience and career pathways. If they offer you a job then think again, in the meantime nowt to lose.
Guess I shouldn't offer any advice though having left school at 14...

Finish your education - that way you might be able to OWN one, rather than poke around in someone elses. They won't let you drive one to LeMans, take your Mrs out in it or take it to a meet - you can do whatever you want in your own car though.
Not saying for a second you can't make good money without Uni though - its just that leaving school to work on Fezzas seems like the quick and easy way to simply be around the cars. I'd take the harder route personally, with the potentially higher rewards.
On a more personal level I went to work at my Dads garage when I was 17, but quickly realised I'd need to go to Uni and work my bo
ocks off to get what I wanted - even with the old man owning the company!

I'm surprised they replyed, I spoke to an Aston Martin dealer and he said he wouldn't employ anyone below 24 due to the insurance. Go for it though, i'm 16 next year and doing something like that would be amazing
eh? you applied to an Aston dealer to drive their cars?? Welcome to the real world and get the kettle on.frazer guest said:
What are you studying at A level? How are you finding the work, easy or hard?
What would you be likely to do at uni, (if you go)?
Any chance that you could do a year on the spanners at the Ferrari place after you have finished your A levels, but before you go to uni?
Doing that might not only look good on your CV for future employers, it might mature you a bit, and give you a bit more motorvation to try extra hard at uni?

Hi Olie
I agree that maybe you should start with a saturday job BUT talk to them and be yourself also sometimes it is good that if you have the feeling in your stomach that this is the job for you then go for it.
I had a friend who had 2 sons who had been to Eton and qualifacation coming out of there ears and they could not get a job for love or money as they were OVER qualifed and so one went to work in the local hospital as a porter and the other went a a third world country to help the starving people.
At the end of the day only you can decide and i wish you good luck and please let all of us know how it goes.
If you come to London anytime give me a shout.
