Well the 350i is out of intensive care ...!
Discussion
Well those of you that may have seen my stream of requests for help to get the 350 running above 2K revs, I thought I would let you all know what the symptoms were and what the final cure was today!
After changing:
Dizzy + volt amp
Plugs
Leads
Temp sensor
Coil
Resistor pack
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
Fuel pressure regulator
And the result was ..............
no change!
Thanks to Leigh I got hold of a known good ECU and AFM
With the other ECU on there was a real improvement in rev range but still running rough
After sending my ECU to a specialist repairer in Gillingham it transpired that the pulse lengths to the injectors was no existant it seemed. Put it back on the car after refurbishment and a large improvement was found but with lots of fiddling it still was running a bit rough. After changing the standard fuel regulator for a RPi rising rate one and after some adjustmet of the reg the problem disappeared ...... wahoo! So a combination of ECU and fuel pressure was the culprit. So after a brief run out today with no problems a session on the RR is now on the books to fine tune it all up
So thanks guys for all the suggestions and help

do you have any suggestions as to how to keep the flap that holds the ecu etc up in place?
I use a bunge cord the type with hooks either end.The main problems is the studpid piece of carboard they use as the backing plate. mine is snapped in the middle.
so you could replace that with a piece of plywood, GRP or somthing that will bend a little but not snap. then it will work as designed. but a lot of fiddling about.

cardboard??!! i guess that was what the screw originally attached to, no wonder it keeps falling down
thanks for info guys
Yes Leigh as mentioned in the original post it worked fine slight over fueling but proved that the problem was with the fuel computer. The AFM also worked fine although the emmission grub screw is missing. I will give you a ring and arrange to return the parts - many thanks fella!
