0-60 world record!!!!!
Discussion
What the FOOK!!! How did we miss that?
Watchin' channel 5, VBH at Silverstone at a 0-60 World Record attempt. Where were the Ultima?
Did anyone know about this?
Didn't get under 3 secs.
Obvious question, but why didn't the Factory get, or accept and invite???
The Guiness World Record is over 3 secs by an RS200, yet Ultima say 2.6 secs??? Missed oportunity or what!!

The track surface wasn't exactly special and we watched the Atom have about 10-15 goes at trying to make the record, the smell of clutch was quite overpowering... (it was entertaining to see him on a side road outside silverstone loading up.. I presume his recovery plan doesn't cover him for time trials
)..
You would have been ok if you made an attempt behind a certain PH'er though..

Mr Frost enquired as to whether he could perform a burnout, they agreed, he did, then they asked very nicely if he wouldn't do it again.. he he he..

I really think that the Factory should turn up at one of these events with Richard or Ted driving, so long as they have enough time etc, and quieten the critics.
If the GTR is indeed the record holder (and I believe it is, I've done 3.0 secs myself !!) then what's the issue. Remember, it's one thing to break a record but another to defend it in the public arena.
Come on Richard and Ted, we don't want to lose our bragging rights !
I know you read these threads so can we have a response please ?
Whoa - three smilies in one mail. Pity I couldn't get the tank smilie in there - maybe next time ...

Well said Tony!!!! We want to see the Ultima's name up in lights everywhere!!!!

It in my opinion is more than just about selling kits/cars. If Ultima is seen to be "THE FASTEST" they will sell far more product. A response would be great.
The problem as I see it with all of this talk of comparing an Ultima to something else is that each Ultima has a different engine.... esp the SB engines where they are essentially built to spec.
In my humble opinion a crate LS would be a better benchmark, it is much easier for the masses to understand as it is "an Ultima with a stock Corvette engine"
..... this of course naturally leads to the use of an LS7.

There has been much discussion about which is the best benchmark and most pundits think that the 0-100-0 record is the best measure. Ultima "own" that one too ! But any of the standard records would suffice.
The top gear track. Hmm, I recall talking to Ted about this but don't recall the conclusion. I reckon it should be top three easy, remember, the GTR also holds the cornering g force record. It's not like some of the tanks they throw around there.
Ted & Co have always been helpful - I'll mail them and let you all know what he says.

You would think that any advertising would be good advertising !!!! would be a great help if the factory did something to promote the car in the real world ....been trying to sell all year and the complete lack of interest and falling values is starting to worry the hell out of me !!!!starting to wish i had never set eyes on one !!!!
Hi folks,
A few replies from Richard at Ultima re the records Ultima hold. Have pasted it all in without further comment. Richard, thanks for the honest and prompt reply.
Here is the e-mail ....
"Hi Ted / Richard and team,
Am thoroughly enjoying the GTR and have now clocked up 1,000+ trouble free miles; a mixture of picking the kids up (they LOVE it), Tescos (always a crowd puller) and some higher speed stuff (see my ¼ mile on youtube !). Totally intoxicating, every single time I get in it.
Anyway, just a few randomish questions for you, some of which will help me respond to a thread on PH about Ultima’s world record status. I know you guys are busy so I’ll keep them short.
1) I am at the NEC Motor Show (on the 10th Nov) as part of the Sporting Bears “dream rides” charity runs. Are you there also ? No doubt there will be a few people wanting to enquire further about ownership and I would be pleased to pass them over to you.
Sorry we won't be there but enjoy
2) ¼ mile runs. Does you have any tips for getting away from the line ? I managed a 11.5 at 132 with wheelspin all over the place so should be able to do a “10”. Did you have standard road tyres, did you drop the pressures, was it an especially grippy track ? Basically, what’s the secret of a quick run !
)
We used standard goodyear road tyres the same as yours. I have recently tried out some Kumhos and these offer superior grip. I am confident that you will be in the 10's if you used these on the rear. I wouldn't mind the chance of attempting to beat all of our existing records on them as they are great for launching. With goodyears try 16psi rear that will help and try and go to the drag strip on a day that it has a lot of grip, more likely in the summer!
3) World records. Fifth gear had a 0-60 world record attempt last night. I didn’t see it but they did not acknowledge the Ultima’s record, saying 3 secs is the time to beat. Likewise, Autocar did not acknowledge Richards sub 10s 0-100-0 earlier in the year. I know in the past you have said that “we’ve broken all the records” and I always enjoy the bragging rights of having the “world’s fastest car”. But the wider forum of car enthusiasts is starting to doubt Ultima’s records. With this in mind, would you be willing to turn up at a future external event, say Fighting Torque, or something by Autocar, to show what the GTR can do in your hands ? Defending your record in the open would quieten every critic and no doubt increase interest & future orders.
We have proved beyond doubt that we have the fastest accelerating and decelerating production supercar. We have incorruptable data recorded by Datron. The runs are on video and are one of the most watched on Piston Heads TV. When you claim to be the fastest you will always get doubters but that is human nature. It really is up to other manufacturers to match or exceed our multiple world records by proving their claimed performance statistics using the same type of incorruptable data.
4) Top Gear. We all really want to see Stig in the GTR taking the record. There are several rumours on PH saying that something was a problem, but can you tell me the facts ?
The GTR can top the leaderboard that is the fact! Rumours that the factory has tuned down Top Gear are completely unfounded."
Well there you go guys. Now where do I find some Khumo's for the 2008 drag strip race ?
On an unrelated note, Matt L, please log in and say hello and show us your "stage 1". Matt bought my dolly and is aiming to build a very serious ultima (750bhp+). Sounds like he is "on it" as far as the build goes. Matt, any of the fellow Ultima owners here (Stig and Steve especially) can always help you out on a 24-7 basis. They are all good guys !
Tony.

The problem lies that people like Autocar often ask the factory and are turned down, they don't recognise manufacturers performance claims no matter how they were recorded. Why, because the car might have been tampered with in order to produce the 'claimed figures' etc etc.....
I always thought the Ultima could do the acceleration times which is why I gave my car to Autocar to test.... they then used the same timing gear on each car on the same surface on the same day/conditions, considering all the other cars there were factory supported I think I did quite well.

I imagine the reason the Factory don't enter these events is the perception that failing (for whatever reason) is worse than not turning up.
The world record runs were planned and performed in a controlled environment where the timing man and equipment are booked and the runs honestly and correctly recorded. If the car goes bang or just fails to make the grade they pay the man and take away the results with no one any the wiser. If all goes well the results are published with a fanfare.
I believe this lack of faith in the car is a pity and a lot of brownie points are there to be had by getting the likes of autocar and others involved.

spot on!! The prices do seem to be falling but i think everything is quiet at the moment ie house sales, shop sales etc etcbut how many "supercars" can you buy for 50k? but there is a massive lack of PR. These cars are great, just today ive been to fill up with petrol (again) and someone stopped me to talk about the car. He said what is it, i told him he was so impressed!! On departing he went round the corner saying i wish i had bought one of them and got into a 04 911. That could of been a potential new owner but because he new nothing about it.....
