I just bough a 1999 R6 over the weekend, seems to run and ride fine, just that when I park it up & leave it it slowly leaks some oil or fuel onto the ground, not a great deal but it seems to be a constant leak.

It seems to collect in the bottom of the fairing as there is a puddle in there, then finds it way onto the ground.

Now is this normall, I know my CBR6 used to have a pipe for excess fluids and drip onto my chain, maybe it's just leaking wrong? or maybe the bike needs a looking at?

Anyhow if anyone has any ideas it would be much appriciated..

Cheers Sam..

Nothing should leak out normally. BTW petrol will evaporate pretty quickly, anything leaving a trace will most likely be oil, I'm expecting its the oil breather system spitting something out. You sure its not a coolant leak? Have you checked your oil or coolant levels? I'd suggest checking them both and topping them off to max and then keeping an eye on whats going.

whip the fairing off & inspect the engine ...cam cover perhaps...might even be a weeping sump plug...

I personally wouldn't continue to ride it [at least not in anger]! If what ever is leaking lets go altogether and dumps all the oil over your rear tyre at 100mph its not gonna be a pretty sight!

Not trying to shit you up ... but I NEED to know my bike is 110% before I can have full confidence in it!

Is a pain, especially when you expect a working machine from a garage!! still I will investigate over the weekend & see if I can identify whats going on. Spoke to garage i got it from and they will look at it on Sat for me!!! Let's hope it's simple :P

Well it turned out to be coolant making a mess all over the floor, could not identify where it was coming from, but jusding by the coolant levels being empty in my bike it was easily identified..

Lucky for me I have only had this bike one week now so although no warrty was given the garage has just taken it off my hands and are going to fix it up free =) & so they should if you ask me!!

So lookout road for tomorrow I will be back :P

MCN show coming up soon guys, shall we have a PH meet? maybe we should make a new thread for this..

Cheers for your addvice,

Sam..

Hey Sam,

If you're in the Salisbury area tomorrow and the weather is passable, I may be up for a blast if you want? Could see if Gary is about on his TLR too? Drop me a mail mate smile

Hey Dave,

London's the word for Sat, went out with Gaz on Wed to poole quay, little did we remember the meet was Tue!! Fools!!!!

But Sunday is open for buisiness, spoke to Gaz and was looking a heading from salisbury-ports down hill (portsmouth)-up near chi (cant remember the name of meet) & then off to wherever,

This is all provided the weather is nice!!!! It is questionable at the moment...

But yer if your free then will be cool =)
