Dont think its anything very serious but when I start up there is a thud/clunk coming from below car....anyone know wot this is? Propshaft problem/similar?

While youre here....have noticed 1cm hole near top of n/s upper wishbone, all aruond this is solid and yes do intend to get it replaced (will have to be both sides? think it is old style, so original, I guess). Should this have been a failure on recent mot? Still driving it as the rest of the w/b is like I said very solid....

Thanks all,

Dave.

Is it before you engage any gears, move away etc?

If so it could be the petrol tank which can build up a bit of a vacuum then flexes and makes a worrying noise - actually harmless. Can be fixed apparently, something to do with a carbon filter but when I looked in the Bible it looked like to much effort. It will be worse if you are low on fuel.

Could be worn engine mounts causing the exhaust manifold to knock the chassis rail on start-up. Mine did that for a while.

See how close your manifolds are to the chassis and if there's any sign of previous contact..

You can see the engine mounts pretty easily from above, you may even be able to rock the engine if they have gone.
Heres some old ones of mine

And some more pictures here
