Reversing G Spyder with e-Gear
Discussion
I have a 11-day old G Spyder e-Gear. Getting it into my garage involves a sequence of intricate back-and-forth manoeuvres that are ordinarily accompanied by a faint whiff of burning clutch. I knew this was going to be the case, and am prepared to live with what I imagine will be the consequences.
However, one garaging exercise has been much more alarming: after lining up for the final approach, I selected reverse and touched the throttle to get the car rolling backwards at a slow walking pace. On this one occasion, there was a sudden very strong smell of burning clutch and a small, but intense, mushroom cloud of black clutch smoke rose from the nearside engine cover vents.
Clearly, I don't want to be doing the latter variation of the garaging fandango too often, but I can't figure out what I did differently to any of the other times. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be that the manufacturers still have a bit of debugging work to do on the e-Gear controlware for reverse?
Here are two pictures of the car, in case anyone is interested.
On this occasion, the factory did manage to build the car with the interior finish that I had ordered (which had not been the case with the one they delivered back in June). The factory did not manage to get the white side indicator lenses on it, but LL got the parts and fitted them before delivery. Nor, it turns out, is the MY08 'premium audio' option actually deliverable until calendar year 2008 (which I believe corresponds with Audi's date for delivering the B&O audio on the R8), despite it being on the MY08 price-list (which has been current from Summer 2007).
