Is it a common fault to have a leaky from either the plug itself or the sump casting around the sump plug?

Mine has been plastic weld repaired in the past and is leaking again.

Removing the sump and ally welding the two of them from scratch to cure the problem but apperently thi shas been seen on other cars???

Cheers

Sump plug hole threads seem to strip fairly easily - mine had - hard to fix so followed
trackcars advise of locktighting in after drilling a new hole and 8mm thread thru old sump plug.

So I guess if its leaking probably not far from failure?

Suggest that you use a insert such as a timesert to repair the thread. It should end up more durable than the original.

The thread is actually fine, the repair is at the junction of the sump hole landing and the sump itself. Needs to be rewelded to secure it properly so removing the sump and doing the job right. May as well do the second plug while its off. Probably even go for a new thread insert at the same time. Pennies to do now its in bits!
