I know 5 PCSOs:
1 is ex-forces and, whilst slightly unhinged, is a good lad and gets stuck in.
1 is a lentil-eating tree-hugger who can't turn up on time and gets "emotionally involved" in jobs.
1 is a a Traffic Warden but wearing the wrong uniform. He has a wank every time he tickets a vehicle.
1 is off sick all the time (genuine reasons).
Only #1 would make a police officer.

Surely only the different coloured hat band and epaulettes identify them as anything other than a proper police officer.
When will they be told
"You are not real policemen!!"
"You are a government's experiment in order to fool the public into thinking you are!!"
"Now straighten those woggles, rub those sticks and sing, all together now...Ging Gang Gooley Gooley Gooley, Ging Gan Goo, Ging Ging Gang Goo..."

whats the differences between PCSO and a real policeman? what powers do the real policeman have over the PCSOs?
Its probably easier to state what powers PCSOs have..Police Reform Act 2002
FFS - dressing them like police would OBVIOUSLY be a bad thing. As things stand, it is obvious what they are, a PCSO. If they dress like police, the public will have less respect for proper police (doff's cap) because the contact with "specials" will leave them thinking that all police are the same...useless, powerless oxygen stealers, when actually a large number of police (and a small number of PCSO's) actually do a good job, the job they are trained to do, in the right way, wearing the correct uniform.
I'm going to work dressed as a lion tamer. Doesn't make me one, or give me "more powers" though.

Whilst I appreciate there are some PCSOs who are utterly worthless (and treating the whole idea of them as a separate issue), the PCSOs I work with are very good at what they do. They are keen, knowledgable, sensible and extremely useful.
I believe this is because they are managed by two excellent sergeants and work alongside some fantastic 'beat' police officers (not me and my lot, I'm on a response team)
They scene guard, conduct house to house enquiries, run errands, deal with a wide range of ongoing community issues, manage traffic during incidents, provide a constant stream of intel on known scroates, have excellent local knowledge and are for the most part extremely useful. They do a lot of the tedious stuff I would otherwise have to do, and this allows me to do my job - prevent, investigate and detect crime.
Ours are dressed almost the same, except whereever I have 'Police' on my uniform, they have 'Community Support', and their collar numbers read 'PCSO'.
With all that said, we're still very short of police officers to do the actual response work!
