Travelling on my way back from Bath this afternoon, early start (3pm) very light traffic lovely sunny day, top down, steady speed all the way back to London, easily home in time for The Simpsons.

Spot the police car on its elevated section on the hard shoulder *well* in advance - normally I curse myself for being blind to these things so a nice surprise for a change - slow down to an indicated 68 mph on the stack - it's pretty accurate even at higher speeds but just want to be sure - got closer and he was posed on the police car door, gun pointing down the M4 at us all. As I approached, SLD starts wining, glance at stack - 68, switch SLD off and on I go.

It was ages before he saw me - 15 seconds at least - lots of traffic being tested - and yet at 68 mph he was checking - I thought that the police had to have a reason to check speeds - i.e. looking like you are speeding.

To me it seemed the gun was pointed down the road and everything that went passed was tested.

Nice to see the SLD alerts if nothing else.

very funny, but isn't it illegal to test like this?
