I want to buy this car: http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/ecom4/frameset?process=...
I want to pay £50k. Drive the deal says around £48k, but I don't want BMW finance.
I will be arranging finance independently.
I want to trade in my 04/2005 Range Rover Vogue TD6 (Cairns Blue with Sand, 28k miles, steps, glass, 18s) for sensible money.
I will want to order a set of winter wheels and tyres as well (price to be agreed).
I want to take delivery before December.
I am based in North London.

If you can do these things, please PM me or respond to this thread with your contact details.

I don't want:
To buy anything different.
To pay more than £50k.
To have to sit on hold for minutes waiting to see if someone can speak to me.
To be spanked on my Range Rover (I'm a sensible chap, so make a sensible offer).
To buy any financial services of any sort.
A test drive.

I will buy from the geographically nearest dealer who meets these terms, or the cheapest if the difference is material.

Hopefully there are some technologically literate BMW dealers out there who can perform.

Link doesn't work.

Hope it isn't a pimp spec X5 or something.

It takes a while to load but isn`t an X5. It`s a 535d M Sport touring specced up to £57k.

Now, call me cynical but I can`t see a BMW dealer supplying one of these for £50k. It looks to me as though it would have to be built to order (would be amazed if one could be built and delivered by December too) and not the sort of thing that might be knocking around in a compound somewhere.

But, having said that it looks like some people will supply one with nearly £10k off.

Drive the Deal is consistently giving 15% discount on 5-series; this includes a £1.5k discount for taking BMW Finance which I've added back, so £50k doesn't seem unreasonable. Unless DTD is bullsh1t. I've achieved discounts like this on Audis (and my Range Rover) before, so I know it can be done if the mfr wants to shift metal. End November delivery should be achievable - it's a 6-week lead time for build to order according to my local dealer (who won't do the price I want, although they have offered a significant discount) and I will place the order this week if someone will play ball.

WRT the spec, I like toys, and since Ken won't let me buy an M5 (and frankly, I don't fancy stopping for fuel every 200 miles) I'm stuck (if that's the right word) with a 535. Even specced like this it's easily £20k less than the M5, which also helps my weekend car fund...

Note to dealers - I'm not messing around here. I'm just fed up with placing calls to dealerships, being told that the salesman will call me back. And waiting. And waiting. And then having them try to switch-sell me into some pre-reg or used car without the key options that I want (not all of the toys are critical, but some of the things I want, e.g. a ski hatch, *never* seem to be specced on the pre-reg cars). I just want someone to go "yes, we can do that"; it's hardly the most painful sale in the world, is it? All you've got to do is price up my Range Rover and take the order.

And yes, I know it will depreciate like a stone chucked off Beachy Head. And that the toys add about eightpence to the resale. And I don't care.

Oh, clarification re the Range Rover having re-read my first post. 04/2005 = April 2005; it's on an 05 plate, and is 05 model year.

When I'm older, I want to be like you. And I honestly mean that.

535d M Sport Touring with that many options, and not caring about the price, is great.

There was a guy on here saying he could get a new m3 for somebody quickly, so I assume he works for BMW. Might be worth asking if anybody knows who I'm talking about and seeing if they can help.

To be fair with an exact spec like that for December you're asking the impossible.

OK, so I can be flexible to some extent on delivery. What is possible? Ideally I want the car before Christmas (we go away over Christmas by car).

I don't see how you're going to get a substantially discounted price *and* a sensible p/x on the Range Rover - the two things are surely mutually exclusive?

Well it COULD be possible to load up a car which is just on the verge of having it's spec and build date confirmed. But you would have to be ringing around now and speaking to a lot of dealers (which you don't like doing wink )

If you go to a with a relaxation in spec and are willing to accept a pre-reg with a high spec you might get the price you want but you'll get spanked on the Rangie. I would be inclined to dispose of the Rangie without giving it to a dealer. There are some people who could do this for you although a potential issue is if the Beemer is delayed for any reason and you end up without a car for a couple of weeks.

If you can be a bit flexible I have someone who can help you. PM me if you're interested. They of course would need a consideration but could do the hard work for you with regard to dealer bargaining and getting the best non-private deal on the rangie.

Because my idea of sensible is forecourt price - £3k. Which ought to be an adequate spread to keep whomever they're flipping it to happy. So, if my car is (looking at LR national search) about £32.5k on the forecourt, I'm looking for £29.5k trade-in. That gives the dealer some margin to play with. If they want to dress it up, they can give me £30.5k for the RR and charge me £51k for the 535. Or whatever. What I don't want is to be bid £24k by someone who thinks I'm a soft target. Frankly, since they're going to trade it straight out anyway, once they've got the RR underwritten, it's just about the minimum price they can shift the 535 at to make quota.

I'm pretty keen to buy direct from the dealer (hence the desire to avoid DtD); it makes the liability position nice and clear, and they're set up to get rid of trade-ins effectively. I'm swapping my other car at the moment, and doing it in exactly this way - I got the dealer to give me a fair price on the car (about forecourt - 4/5k, but it's a 911, so you expect, depressingly, that the dealer will have more money across the car) and then negotiated on the replacement. Two or three calls got me a clear picture of what the 911 was worth in the trade - any more and I know they're taking margin out of what they're selling me, any less and I'm getting spanked. Of course it's less than I'd get retailing it, but that's not on my list of fun things to do at the weekend.

The RR still has full manufacturer's warranty on it, so it's a low-risk deal for the trader.

Most brokers do NOT take your money - they simply broker a deal for you via a main dealer. It is the main dealer who you buy the car from.

I'd take the D2D price.

I may do that. I have a confidence issue with DtD that may be misplaced. Has anyone used it successfully?

Well, that's helpful. Why? What do you think an April 05 28k mile Range Rover TD6 Vogue is worth at trade, then, given that they're somewhere around the £32.5k mark on a dealer forecourt? Every independent I've ever dealt with has wanted between 2.5 and 3k across a car - has this changed?

With Alex Creasy you do buy direct from the dealer, you pay Alex his fee and a £500 deposit direct to the dealer at order time then you deal direct with dealer from then on in. I've got one on order and he comes highly recommended.

Ben,
Phone Anthony Goodwin at Stephen James. Top bloke, gets things done.
Suspect the problem is in your opinion of your Range Rovers value. Is your car perfect in terms of paint, tyres, windscreen and history, and I mean perfect, not OK ,cause the dealer needs to make it perfect and that costs a lot of dosh. Dealer has to pay for a used warranty as well.
All in all a proper franchised dealer needs more than £3k margin. Course getting £2k off the 535 seems very acheivable.
Good Luck
