Delivery of T350C - how many have 2nd cars as a backup?
Discussion
Hi all
Finally take delivery of my T350C this week after a bit of a delay due to the garage fixing the leaking radiator and replacing it with ne of the uprated copper and brass ones, but cant wait + just hoping for some nice weather to put the car to the test before the winter weather sets in.
Im going to be using the car as my daily driver as I only commute 3 miles to work and live near some of the best roads that I know of in the whole area. I know loads of people use T350's as their only car and im very happy to do that but I do have one question.......
How many people have a back-up car for when the tvr does let out (odd occasion) or when its in for a service? I really cannot do without a car as I need to get to work (FULL-STOP or i'll get the boot)!!!!! so have considered gettinga £200 shed to be used on the odd occasion or when the cars getting serviced.
How does everyone else manage? as all insurance companies have quoted me £300 a year on a 1993 pug 106 diesel as a 2nd car, 3rd party with 2000 miles/year. Which incidentally is worth £200 (HOw does that work......)

I have to admit that im not the biggest fan of buses etc.. but for a drive that takes me 10 mins would literally take 2hrs on the bus due to routes, so that is actually not an option at all!
I was hoping just to get a taxi on the odd day but with the radiator problem I have realised that it can be 1/2 wks before parts are in and that then adds up to a lot of taxis!!!!!
I was just amazed that the insurance was £300 on a £200 banger that is gonna literally be used once a month!!!!!!!!!!

If you plan to commute in the TVR and it's only three miles you won't be doing it any favours at all. Repeated short trips like that would be very bad for the engine, you won't be able to enjoy it because the engine will be stone cold.
Ive have to say i agree with this. A 3 mile trip IMO will kill the car if done twice a day. I do approx 20 miles each way to work in mine and it just about hits 70 oil temperature. IMO you will have no end of electrical problems especially through the winter with condensation forming from the heat and damp and not getting a chance to lift as well as the obvious engine issues running constantly cold and on choke etc. I usually preach why have a TVR if you dont use it but got to say i think this is an exception !! Get a bicycle - I cycle 3 miles to work each day (and 3 home again)it provides a bit of exercise and it wakes you up in the morning as well as providing some de-stress time on the way home.
I then feel very self-righteous and fully entitled to burn as much of the Earth's resources as I can at the weekend in my Tamora

I to am looking at buying a shed for a the odd day when it is called upon but also because sometimes I need to visit building sites or travel down farm tracks that i wouldnt take the Tamora
I would say even if you have a three mile commute to work you will find lots of reasons to justify going a very long way home or set out to work early
I have had mine for two weeks and have been going out for drive in my lunch hour just for the thrill

Ditto all that. I have a Corsa for my daily commute and keep the T350 for week-ends, evenings and special days. The warm up would definitely be an issue with only 3 miles to commute. Mr.Chips said:

In the days when we had proper winters with snow (remember that white slippy stuff ?) I left them at home but that's probably a handful of times in 20+ years.
Not had much trouble with breakdowns etc so that was never an issue.
I live about 6 miles from work but sometimes take the scenic route.
