Having had a succession of high end, bullet proof 911s, am about to plunge into the quagmire of Italian exotica.

Whatever I decided upon, will used as the weekend plaything.. have just bought a new RS4 saloon for daily grind and school runs.

Question is.. how reliable are the modern Italian machines..? I will be looking at sub 5k miles/ 18mths old max 430 manual/F1 hardtop or Gallardo hardtop.

(I had a 355 spider many many moons ago, and it was always playing sill buggers) biggrin

Cheers
Rob

Just sold my gallardo ,in 14 months it cost me £950 for a service at lambo manchester, nothing went wrong loved the car, recently tried a 997 turbo with 560 bhp upgrade, but tip, and it does nothing for me

Had it a couple of months, but am bored with the trackday scene. Am doing the ards test next month, and intend to race in some format (cost dependant eek)
.. so no need for dedicated track car.

Fancy scratching some Italian itches over next couple of years. Also have name down with local OPC for 1st 998 GT3 RS at dealer.. poss 09/10

Cheers
Rob

I have run my Gallardo for 9k miles and 9 months without a single issue.

This includes daily grind commute thru London, M'way, trackdays and 3k mile european trip over the summer. Oh and hottest ambient temp 40C, coldest -5. Still no issue.

Sorry - Satnav had a wobble - the DVD was dirty.

Our Ferrari's have 60% more down time than the Lambo's - no contest - Lambo's are far more reliable.

Hi Kurgen - after a succession of Porsches I've also gone the Italian route with a 430 and like you was concerned whether the reliability would be there. All I can say is that in exactly four months I've done 5,000 HARD miles - just got back from 2,500 miles in ten days through France, Germany, Switzerland and France (again) and believe me the car got thrashed both on sustained high speed runs and up and down umpteen mountain passes. Not a hiccup, no oil or water used just sheer bliss. And so much more 'special' as an overall experience than a Porsche - IMHO of course. Go for it!

Seriously Chaps, are these F430 F1's well built and reliable?

I too am on the brink of purchase, and really dont want some flakey shitter that is always dropping apart and breaking down.

What goes wrong with them?

Can they be used everyday if required (ie as bullet proof as a Gallardo)

After nearly a year of 430(manual) ownership and regular (tho not daily) use, my experience is wholly positive. It's hardly cost a penny and hasn't missed a step.

I also agonised over the Gallardo before buying an 06/06 F430 Coupe Manual. Have done 3500 miles in 3 months, and it has not put a foot wrong. I have driven it for 970 miles in a day across 4 countries, stopping only to refuel, and it never complained or missed a beat. The only downside is the infrequency with which I now get to use the car, due to the arrival of a small person, and having to drive a company car during the week! Am starting to think about changing it for something totally different, like an M5 Touring, or an RS6...

Steve, my mate has a black/black with red stitching 05 F1 car that he wants out of. He uses it, could be worth looking at if you dont want to pay big money for a late car.

No Orange bits though pal.

Cheers Bund, but I bought something today. Besides, I am trying to steer away from black cars as my friggin cat always leaves paw prints all over them (other colours dont show the fleabags traces so badly!) - also birds shit more on black cars, because they naturally prefer to crap into water and clean black cars look like nice little shiny ponds to poo in from the air. biggrin

Yep, not had a Ferrari before, and it seemed like the right thing to do.
