Sure its not a poor cable end connection etc? Had that and I was getting 50 ohm resistance between the crimped end and terminal post on the motor. Battery disconnected of course, just in case I mad a very hot but short lived heater element. Cleaned it all up and it went like a dream. About the same time as a duff block earth connection.
Edited to add, sure you need a 10 mm hex on a socket as well to reach it? Can't remember if its a 10mm but there was a thread on it so went and bought the socket for future use.

I have fitted a new starter motor to my 1984 350i.
The bolts are stiff to undo you just need patients.
I is best to use a hex socket on the end if a bar.
You can do the job without removing the wheel but have the car jacked up and on stands.
The bolts can be undone from under the car and the top bolt throught the chassis.
I paid about £120 from my local lucas electricals.

Put a new positive cable on a few weeks ago , no difference , unless its the wire that goes to the coil , I think there is too much heat around the starter due to the manifolds being so close so need to get some heat wrap for the manifolds as well ... the list goes on .
SteveUnless your manifolds are stainless, its maybe not a good idea to wrap them
- Accelerates corrosion. Just make a heat shield for the starter.
I had problems a while ago with my starter motor, it would start up first turn of the key every morning, but when it warmed up it would take forever to start up. I thought it was the heat from the manifolds baking the starter motor so off with the old and on with the new. Still not completely right. I remembered years ago i had a similar problem so i done what i did then and disconected the immobilizer and it works everytime now hot, cold.dry, wet no problems. Need to sort the wiring out for the immobilizer now as the wires are probably to thin so i am told.
