...that ambulance driver that was up a few weeks ago for 104 whilst carrying an organ for transplant? AFAIU he was travelling under blue lights and I'd consider an organ for transplant to be a life threatening emergency (however as a member of Joe Public you'd prolly be right to argue that I don't know squat).
Reason I ask is that a day or two after he was in the news I was pressing on down the M3 along with a Skoda Octavia VRS doing about 90 (cruise control on) - no other traffic on the road. There was a Police Volvo on the far flyover at the Hook jct. (picking off people as they came over the crest as they came from Basingstoke) and so we both backed off to 70. Once beyond the crest we pootled back up to 80.
A short time later as we were about half way between Hook and Basingstoke a single headlight appeared in my mirrors ... I gave Skoda boy a quick warning flash just in case and we dropped back to about 75. Seconds later a Police bike came hammering past us and by the time we'd actually reached the Basingstoke jct. he was a distant spec.
We were doing 75 when he passed us ... he had to have been doing a good 30 mph faster than us at least, no blues, no siren - after seeing that I just hope the ambulance guy managed to get off!
