I've been wanting a games console for a bit now, and was asking on my own forum at the start of the week what was best to get, the new XBox or the PS3.

Then last night, whilst surfing Amazon I found a 60gb PS3 with free HDMI cable, Formula 1 CE and Motor Storm for just £353 delivered!!! Is this a mistake on Amazon's part? I'd feel pretty stupid had I bought one at entry level prices while I was in LA last year! rolleyes

Amazon Link

Now how can I explain to the girlfriend how I came to lose £353. If I tell her I spent it on a PS3 she will leave me, maybe I'll just lie and say I had a few escorts round...yeah, that'll work! wink

No it's right.

I saw an advert in the paper and I'm sure it was HMV. Brand new PS3 less £300!!!!

I did see they had 40GB models too, but reading up on the spec the savings didn't seem worth it.

They're right down because its taken an utter panning.

Blu-Ray hasnt shown dominance and there is a woeful lack of software for it in comparison to the 360.

Sony also didnt bank on Nintendo gaining dominance over this generation of consoles.

Even if it was £200 it wouldn't be the format I'd choose.
Mainly for one reason: Halo 3! shoottankcloud9

PS3 is shiny and nice but has no games and no rumble.

Wii is for Girls and Children.

X360 rocks bells but breaks.

<shrugs>

I've got 2 out of 3, but see no need for a PS3...

Rumble is coming very soon, and there are lots of games in the pipline.

IMO, the PS3 is a slow burner: it will still be going strong in a year or two when the 360 is looking past it. smile

Forza 2. The only reason to get a 360 instead!

Wouldn't mind a PS3 but have no interest in blu-ray, the controller is crap as it doesn't rumble for the sake of being motion sensored, which if you've played motorstorm you'll realise is a waste of bloody time and the sticks are better anyway and there's no good games yet.

When some decent software comes out it'll probably be even cheaper anyway.

and everyone else, given that its now outsold 360 despite 360 having a 12 month head start.

IIRC the PS3 was crippled by a very slow bus speed and coupled with the inability to get true parallel processing stuff running right on the Cell processor (If I'm thinking about the right box) made it a bit tough to develop for.

Plus I think the MS dev tools were miles better.

For just over 100 nicker you can get a slimline PS2 and GT4 anyway - no need for an old-before-it-was-new PS3.

I hear it's a 10yr plan or something.

I'll probably replace the PS2 with one in a couple of years, when they're £100.

Put it this way, my PS3 owning mate is looking at getting a 360, because that's what everyone else has, and it has games available.

The PS3 is a nice machine, but Sony has completely arsed up the launch. Smacks of arrogance, imo.

40GB PS3 is going for £279.99 at the mo on some sites. But I'll wait until the price comes way down and some decent games arrive that are exclusive to the PS3, in the meantime I'll stick with my Wii60 combo...

Women and Children outnumber men.

The Wii is an overpriced Gamecube with novelty controllers.

I know this because there is one in my livingroom next to the X360.

Gav, I think the stats say Blu-Ray is outselling HDDVD 2:1.

PS3 is supposed to be a reasonable Blu-Ray player as well.

at sony will do its yearly trick of making sure shops dont have any ps3's in stock for the christmas rush, as they have done every year since the psx, ps1, ps2, psp etc came out.

finally shot themselves in the foot.

PS3 prices are getting cheaper because the can't sell the things.

The PS3 was late, initially too expensive, and hasn't got enough good games.

All 3 are linked with the decision to use a Blu Ray drive. It may have given them an initial advantage in the HD format war, but may have lost them the Console war (which at present is a far larger market).

Agreed

To say that Nintendo is "winning this generation of the console war" implies it is a next generation console, which it isn't. It is far closer to a PS2 than a PS3.

I'm surprised that neither sony or microsoft have launched their own Wii style controllers.

nice bargin - but i wont be buying a PS3 for at least a year...

simple fact, there are no games on it I want... whereas it seems every couple of weeks there is a new 360 game out I want!
