Moving from R1 to R6
Discussion
Hi all,
I currently track an R1 which is great but funds are short at the moment and i'm thinking of selling it and moving to an R6? not sure which yr yet.
It will be for track use only having been knocked of the MV recently and just am now just appaled at the standard of drivers on the road these days (although seems like been like it forever)
Has any one done this, swapped a 1000cc for a 600cc? if so can you let me know your views.

I have just swapped from a k5 GSXR 1000 to the new 600rr - I am not regretting it at all!! There is nothing more fun than dusting 1000's with a 600! yes you will struggle on the straights on fast circuits like silverstone but it has certainly made me faster through the corners. At the end of the day I made the move to try and improve my circuit speed with the intention of moving back to a 1000, but at the moment I am perfectly happy with the 600.

how do you find the 600RR, my Fireblade got written off and im going to be buying an RR towards the end of next week, just to get a deal on it at this time of year but i too want to do more track time and thought it would be the perfect bike, then go back up to a 1098 when they come down to more sensible money. In a word amazing - I was one of those that said I would neve ride a 600 again when i got used to the 1000 but now its a different story! I gues if you enjoy battering people down the straights (like i did) with 170bhp worth of tuned 1000 then the 600 is probably not for you but on the brakes through the corners it is fantastic. It is so light you can throw it around in such a way that makes the 1000 seem like a barge. The other thing that suprised me was the fact the 750 GSXR could not lose it under power either - two of my mates use these on track and wherever we end up side by side on a straight that is where we stay. Last time I was at mallory I had several guys come over amazed by pace it had...

Now remove that 600 Sticker and put the 750 one back on..
Clearly i can't legislate for when my mates are changing gear but as one clubraces at mallory I doubt he was short shifting!
I disagree about the 750 but I'm not getting into the 750 vs 1000 arguement!! My K5 1000 would wipe the floor with a 750 in a straight line anywhere - proved that on the drag strip on a multitude of occasions (and I didn't get the jump on the start!) My comment relates to situations often found on circuit where the straights are shorter thereby rducing the 750's chance of pulling away above say 140mph. Having said that, even at silverstone they never pulled away that much. Please don't think i'm knocking the 750 but I'm just trying to express how suprised i was with the new 600rr.
to be fair the new RR is a top bike, full Akra system, PC and a bit of setting up should easily see 120BHP at the wheel from it, a friend races in the GSXR series with a 600 and thier only allowed a can and suspension mods and hes seeing 117 or 116 at the wheel from his.
im definatly buying one next week, i cant decide wether to buy privatly and get a very low milage used one or buy new though.

I understand that you are only expressing what you know, which is what I'm also doing.I have a 600RR track bike myself and know what it's strong/weak points are. It's only my opinion, but for me a post 04 GSXR would be the ideal track tool for me, from what I've seen over the years on track.

i used to have the same model 600RR as you have as your track bike, ive ridden the new one and i still think the original was and is a great bike but the new model is definatly a noticable improvement in my opinion, not sure about keeping up with a GSXR 750 but it is quicker and nicer through the bends than the old one.

I am in the process of prepping a 2003 R6 (Mint) for track work after destroying my 05 Repsol Fireblade.
I am leaving the engine alone and opting for benefits through re-gearing. As already mentioned, the only time this could be any concern is on the vast straights at Silverstone where I will be struggling against my friend's K7 Gixer thou.
-1/+2 should give me what I need out of the corners.
I have ridden the bike on the road (as it used to be my sister's) and it was hilarious after riding the blade. It was like riding a toy bike that you could really throw around and get ragged. I can't wait to see what it is like round the track.
Going on the principle of late braking and higher corner speed I am looking at upgrading the fronts with braided hoses and HH pads, and running on Pirelli SCs.
We were originally looking at doing Snetterton this weekend but everyone has bottled it due to commitments, it now looks like Silverstone on 17th November if anyone is up for meeting up?

Begrugingly test rode the 07 CBR 600 RR with my Dad on an r6 as he wanted to compare.
Traded my 04 in for an 07 that week. Dad picked up his 07 RR a week later. They are staggeringly good.
