Ducati Desmosedici RR

Production increased for beautiful new superbike

Most days we try and bring you car news, but today I have found a new motorbike so impossibly gorgeous we thought it was worth sharing, and if you are anything like me fast bikes appeal as much as fast cars.

Ducati has announced that it is extending the planned production run or the Desmosedici RR from 1250 to 1500 bikes due to high demand. All 1500 RRs will be delivered to owners by the end of 2008, so if you fancy one it may be worth calling your dealer now.

Following the tradition of many supercar manufacturers, the first RRs will go to existing Ducati owners with 999R riders being offered the first 500 of the new model.

The RR is a road version of the Moto GP bike and features a V4 rather than the usual V-Twin. The road bikes get a 1000cc, instead of the GP bikes 800cc, engine producing 200bhp at 13.800 rpm. The bodywork is 100% carbon Fibre with a tubular steel frame, this gives a dry weight of only 171kg.

A truly delectable machine, we want one- badly.

More details on the RR can be found here

Worth noting that the 171kg is the dry weight, and with a bike the weight of the rider makes a big difference to the overall weight... that said with a skinny rider and fluids you could possibly be looking at 250kg which would mean 800bhp/ton not too shabby!

Anyway even if it wasn't stupidly rapid its still totally stunning, Ducati certainly know how to make pretty bikes. If i had the £££££'s and the mantle piece was a bit bigger I would be tempted to buy one to put on it (I know it would be a travesty not to use it), other half might have something to say on that idea though wink

Lovely bike, but it may soon be joined by another.

Have you seen the new Aprilia V4 engine they are planning, with up to 220bhp?

IMHO it looks too plain with big flat fairings - reminds me of the early 90's superbikes, I think modern Jap bikes look a lot sharper. (I'm not one of the gullible people who suddenly claim to love anything just because its made by an italian designer....)
(Someone has also got to mention reliability, build quality and being overpriced....)

are u real??

plain??

jap bikes sharper?? im the biggest honda man ull find but that bike is the tits, when u see it in the flesh it has so many curves and the spec sheet says it all!! as for overpriced, the forks are worth 15k......... thats more than your average r1 is worth total!!

i am lucky enough to know someone who has been on the list since it was first announced at world ducati week and he takes delivery very soon, he already has the ride planeed to run it in that week and then fit the optional full exhaust and get it mapped!! result?? 220bhp..............

Nice, but you know I think an underseat CBR600 is a touch prettier.
As for power to weight ratio, I dont think its class leading, but lets be honest its academic for the road.
My shonky old 916 is 11 years old now, yet Ducati still have not made anything prettier IMHO; and the old 999, boy how ugly, were they doing drugs in Bologna when that was conceived?? You should dial 999 if youre ever thinking of buying one hehe.
Ducati reliability is legendary; to keep my 916 twin reliable and usable requires 2-3 times the work of any japanese sports bike Ive owned; I just hope the V4 isnt double the work again..although I doubt many will cover high mileage.

Well done to Ducati for putting the first MotoGP rep on the road though.
