Hi,

This is my first post (so forgive me in advanced if I haven't found the right place to put this).

I am a 2nd year BEng Motorsports Engineering student, and I am trying to organise an Autograss day for the motorsports classes, so that we can have some cheap fun (after all that's what being a student is all about). Just to have a couple of laughs.

I have never organised such an event so I would like help in:

a) Finding a place
b) Any legal health and safety issues I might have to look into?

I know the University of Bristol does something similar, as I found their site - but I doubt they would just share the info :P

Thanks

As a start, check on the MSA web site.

Also get in touch with one of your local motor clubs.

I'm pretty sure someone with more experience will be along soon with a bit more advice.

Welcome to PH!

I'm not entirely sure Autograss runs to MSA reg's and permits - It didn't used to but that was some years ago??

TBH it's a minefield that you'd not want to go into without some decent experience of organising motorsport events.

If it's run to MSA regs you need to be an Organising Club to get a permit(permission to run) and must then run to the Blue Book requirements for that type of Motorsport.

I have never organised such an activity in the UK, back in Malta health and safety laws are still not as strict. None the less, if Bristol Uni found a way of organising it at a low level, surely we can do something similar...

Chat to the local Autograss club, they have a permanent site just by j13 of the M5 (Stonehouse/Stroud side) about 1.5 miles off the junction.

I should think finding a venue would be the first stumbling point. I race hovercraft and finding new venues is a pain in the ass (and we don't even damage the land!!).

Good luck though.
