Zuma for "Scene", Petrus for fine dining. Cheese board is awesome there. Go and have a few in the blue bar first if you are going to petrus.

  • * Disclaimer - restaurants can have good and bad nights - the best ones are more good than bad! ******
Yeah another vote for Zuma here (try the Wagyu beef, the Gyu Tataki and all the Tuna dishes) and Petrus, also try Ramsays at Royal Hospital Road if you can get in.

If you like very traditional "classic" French, served somewhat formally then Gavroche is consistently good (always have the souffle for either starter or desssert!).

I'd avoid Ramsays at Claridges, and L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon - both way over-rated, as is La Noissette and Boxwod cafe.

Angela Hartnett was stunning but is not now re-opening in the Connaught - looking for another venue.

Rhodes24 (Garry Rhodes!) at the Natwest tower is good, and you can start the evening off in the champagne bar at the top of the tower. Quite impressive.

Yeah, not really very close to Brompton Road now, is it?

The Square on Bruton Street - not far in the evening from Harrods by taxi - is superb. 2 star from memory.

I thought it was terrible ! Bar at the top is ok but it bit small.

Petrus is good, Quo Vadis not a 3* place but consistent and nice, Is the Oak room at le meridien picadily still going - that was very nice smile

What sort of atmosphere are you looking for?

My two top favourites, and fairly regular haunts of mine.

I'd put Ramsays at Royal Hosp Rd top for food, and Gavroche for food & ambience combined.

Ramsays have impeccably perfect courses, except that they do a poor souffle. Their amuse bouche are unique and tantalising. Service is perfection itself. The decor is high quality but bland.

The very best starter at Gavroche is the cheese souffle (in fact they do the best cheese souffle in the world!), and their souffle desserts are wonderful too. Service is excellent and decor has real European old world character.

Zuma, Royal Hospital Road and Petrus. Can't get better than any of those, just depends what you want to eat and if you can get a table..... More likely to get an early table at late notice at Zuma

If you eat at Zuma, the Black Cod in Miso and the 'off-the-menu' toffee souffle is sublime

Roof Gardens is very good. Not quite the level of one or two establishments mentioned but excellent quality:

I had it as part of the Taster menu there, along with the Wagyu, neither of which were 'supposed' to be on there it seems.

another vote for Petrus here - it's in the Berkley, which is a great hotel, you've got the blue bar right next door (I'm a sucker for their warm nuts smile) and it's worth it if you've not been before, for the cheese (amazing) and sweet trolleys alone (not to mention the out of this world wine list obviously).

Royal Hospital Road is possibly better for food, but I prefer Petrus for the whole dining experience.

Thank you very much for your tips! Good taste in cars should hopefully mean good taste in restaurants.
