Hot start ?????
Discussion
Have had my 98 chim for 8 weeks now and with the reasonable weather enjoyed around 1500 trouble free miles .big grin ,.
Tonight as it was quite nice we took her out for a run to see family on the way home stopped off in local chippy. when i returned to the car and turn the ignition the fuel pump whirred as ussual and dash lights came on but would not start. i tried locking unlocking to ensure alarm / immobiliser off and repeated starting, again fuel pump lights but car would not turn over.
Luckily i was on an incline so tried bump start which she fired and ran perfectly, so drove the 3 miles home . Once home turned car off and tried starting several times and all fine .ANY IDEAS PLEASE HELP????????????

Its is normally the starter solinoid wire.It breaks down when its hot it gets worse in the summer. you can put a wire mod which puts another relay in . I`ll send you detail how to make the loom up and where the wires go if its any help just send me a email address

Yes that is a good point to check.
You could also consider placing a heat shield to protect the starter motor from the heat in the engine bay although the motor could be on the way out.
David Beer does purpose made hot start kits if you are interested.
However, I found the cause of my hot start problems was none of these. Instead the heat from the car generally was causing the alarm system in the car to imobilise the vehicle. This is apparently fairly common and one of the reasons why you will find that some people disable the alarm system - mine had been disabled when I bought it and it was only by chance that I found out I didn't have a working vehicle alarm. I got the alarm reconnected only to find I'd got hot start problems! All sorted now but do factor this into the range of possibilities (along with just about everything else no matter how unlikely it might at first seem)
Good luck

I also had the joys of a prolonged stay at a petrol station yesterday due to the car not starting!
I could hear the clicking of the solenoid but the motor would not turn at all. I think the battery is in good condition, and have never had any problems with the starter motor before. I let the car cool down for about 20 mins, but got fed up waiting and roped in a passer by to give me a bump start. At work at the moment, but will try starting her again this pm.
As the solenoid was clicking, could this still possibly be the infamous hot start problem, as cured by the David Beer kit? Are starter motors likely to just give up the ghost, or would they more likely gradually fail?
