Having finally sorted out the fuel pump problem, (Turned out to be a sticking relay & bad earth. Thanks to all who offered advice.) I now have a new issue!
I just started up to be greeted with an awful racket coming from the top end!
Sounds to me like the sort of noise you get from a tappet with way too wide a gap.
As it was fine last weekend & has not run since I doubt much can suddenly have happened to damage anything.
So if its a stuck hydrulic tappet whats the best course of action to sort it out?
It's got fresh oil in BTW

Maybe a pad has fallen off one of the rocker arms. If I were you I'd take the rocker cover off on the noisy side and see if it all looks OK.

Will do. Will i need a new rocker cover gasket when I put it back?

This happens with mine, and after a couple of miles, soughts itself out. Occurs about every 3-4 months for no obvious reasonconfused. I'm reluctant to investigate as there is absolutely no problem for some weeks.

Not saying your issue is the same, but the same sound. Could be a pad, but not on mine.

If it's cork, then probably (you may be lucky if you're extremely careful, but I wouldn't count on it). If it's got the rubber gaskets then it will be reusable. If yours has a rubber gasket you will be able to see it at the bottom of the rocker cover.

Cheers, Its seems to have settled down now. Mind you it's on its original cam at close to 90000 miles.
So I think I'll bite the bullet & replace thae cam & followers so it's already for the spring.
I'll start a new thread for cam choice.
