Can't comment on the others, but I went for the MC1 as I wanted to keep a good idle for daily use. I would definately recommend it since it does exactly what it says it will: Great idle, good steady pull all the way up to the top with a bit of extra power all the way up for good measure (around 20bhp V8D reckon) - can't fault it
Rob Robinson of www.v8racing.co.uk, did a good bit on this forum on just this subject, that I added to a web site Ive done on the Ginetta G33 (with his blessing). I have added a couple more cams I have come across as well.

I've put a stealth in my 500 and found it to be a nice, but minor upgrade. MC1, as I understand, is all about low end torque. Stealth is near std with a useful power upgrade (and very slight loss of low end), H404 is a screamer, leading to a substantial loss of low end to gain a lot of top (300 bhp +).
My stealth in an otherwise std engine, made 294 hp and 318 lbs/ft torque. Kit including cam, followers, timing gear, springs and gaskets cost just shy of 600 bucks delivered.
Expect a garage to charge around £1200 including parts. However, that will not include taking off the heads and reseating valves etc (top end rebuild) like I did. Austec do this as a matter of course I believe, which is over £2k.

I may be wrong but i dont think a lot of the hotter cams will work in a 400 because the pistons arent pocketed....
The HC400 has, but the stock 400 as not,so your right you are limited on using spikey cams unless you pull the motor down and machine the pistons
you would have to be careful what cam you choose for the 400 if it is to spikey you could end up with a flat motor till your up on the cams powerband
i dont think i would go much more than the Hc cam in a 400,mine is just around that limit,it spins up nice to 6k but if you drive a stock 400 its traffic manners are much more civilised.thenick said:
On 450's apparently some are pocketed and some aren't... I found mine were and Rob at V8D said this might be due to it being a BV model (some apparently were but not labelled as such). Not sure how you'd tell though so it shall remain a mystery!
I've heard that if you have the plastic timing gear then chances are it's just standard Land Rover although this is not guaranteed. The risk was too great for my car so I ended up using a Piper cam rather than one that was potentially incompatible. It needs careful research, i.e. talking to the experts as some will just sell you a cam without asking any questions. Thanks for all the input.
Looks like a straight choice between MC1 & Stealth. Why no data on timing, lift & duration for these though?
Also on a std 4 litre lump is there any real benefit to an adjustable timing gear?
AFAIK the only mod on these engines was to the ecu & cam. Amazing how little it took to get 240 bhp out of it!
