Tonight I wrung its neck across country - and I mean WRUNG. I knew sooner or later that the circumstances were going to be just right to explore the envelope and I have to hold up my hands and say that my gasted has never been more flabbered. It was awesome in every respect. Directionality in handling was pin sharp, there was no buttock-clenching, edge of the seat stuff - it just followed the focus of the driver's vision. The gearing (occasionally in moderate exercise I have had my doubts about 3rd/4th) but in full chat under pressure it was perfect. The balance of the car once it picks up its skirts is sheer delight, it's like all the negative vectors fall away leaving just downforce and velocity with perfectly neutral steering. The seat/driving position and the pedal layout when the organ-master is really dancing are just right. Finally my compliments to the brakes: not one iota of fade, totally progressive and confidence building.

Straight line A-Road stuff leaves this car (and the driver, it has to be said) pretty indifferent. OK, it's hugely practical (4 good seats with a huge boot and loads of gadgets) and the VTec makes some interesting noises above 6-7k, but take the country road home, wind it up and I doubt there's a more rewarding drive. Certainly nothing that I've driven before.

I've had the CTR for 3 months but this was the first time I have been moved to report on driving it. I now see it in a different light. It gained substantial respect from me tonight and I now understand what makes it tick.

I have had both versions of the type r ep3 and fn2. I honestly prefer the new one. I suppose its a question of taste though

I had a great blat today in my ITR, some people dont like the frantic nature of VTECs and the constant gearchanging but to me its all part of the fun keeping it on the boil, and theres not much that will keep up with a well driven Type R on a twisty road biggrin

What amazes me most is the sheer abuse these cars will take. I gave mine the kind of abuse that would make some engines go bang and it just laps it up and wants to do it again and again.
