I've been playing matchmaker since I got the game and all it gives me is Snowbound, The Pit, Guardian and Narrows. Why??
The only way I seem able to play the other maps is joining friends who are in the middle of a game.
Is there no way of searching for a game to join where I can select which map to play??

You cant choose which games you join in matchmaking, things like specifically searching for caputre-the-flag cannot be done. There are good reasons for this, if people could choose games then the majority of all games played would be the same (a bit like how half the counterstrike servers are always in de_dust).
You can get around this by setting up a custom game, and inviting others in.
