Bummer, my 360's video card seems to have packed up.

I still get sound when I turn the unit on, just no picture. I've bought a new video cable and checked the scart socket with my Wii to rule the obvious out. Strangely though, I did get the picture back when I plugged the new cable in last night, but it was as if the contrast had been turned right up, the picture didn't stay for long, 20 minutes and it had stopped working again.

Am I unfortunate or is this another known problem with the 360.

Never heard that before. Have you had a look to check that the switch for HD/SD is set right?

Happen to have access to another cable?
As possible as it's that the xbox has a fault it's equaly possible the cable it's self has developed a fault.

If it's under a year old just take it back to where you bought it from, standard warranty will cover it smile

It's 1 year and 2 weeks old, the receipt reads 01/10/06 unfortunately.

ETA: wrong date above.

If you bought it from Game, i think that they have extended their warrenty for 2 years. Give them a call first though just to make sure. Had i not taken my apart i would have taken mine back.

Still if you want to persist you can cliam that the console should be exchanged under that sales of goods act for not being fit for the purpose of its intented use. A game console dying just after a year, really isn't fair game.

Then I'd call Microsoft Xbox support, they can be very helpfull, and a 5-10 min call is much cheaper than a new console, unless your thinking about using it "dying" to get the OH to agree in a new 360 elite smile

Good luck.

The 3 red lights fault is set at 3 years, if you fancy trying it, you could bake your 360 until the fault develops, wrap it in a blanket and set it (almost) on fire.

dont try this at home kids

go buy a used one from Game, then take back the original one the same day. Tell them they sell used rubbish that doesn't work, demand a refund and voila!

There is a small issue of a serial number that would be checked.
I guess i could try and blag it, but then i could get done for fraud.

Do Game repair consoles? Just thinking, a repair ought to be cheaper than a replacement, new or used.

If it is out of warranty, Microsoft will repair it for about £60 for you, and give you a year full warranty.

Do Game check serial numbers?
